I had my operation last Thursday and got home yesterday. I was pleased to be told by the surgeon that both legs are of equal length:)

During the operation a small crack developed in my femur which means I have to keep the weight off my leg for 6 weeks. I'm finding it a bit of a challenge doing this but already feel much better today than I did yesterday. The surgeon told me that so long as I am careful for the first 6 weeks there is no reason why this one won't last as long at the other.

Has anyone else had this happen during their op?

hi catwoman thats not good hope it heals super fast. it must be frustrating not being able to put weight on your leg.i see your from the uk where abouts are you and what hospital did you have your surgery. im from kent and having rthr at guys hospital london on 23rd sep sorry if im being noisy xxxx:D:D

Hi cat--This did not happen to me though it was explained as a potential risk and I am aware that it happens on occasion. I am pleased to hear about the leg length issue but I am sorry for the complications and for the associated additional inconvenience. But as complications go, this appears to be fixable without further surgery and with some extra care and inconvenience. So there is a blessing in that.

Go to searh at the top key this in I think she did............
new here, bad experience

Good luck sorry that happened to you I hope this helps.......) get well soon.........)

Hi I got a crack in my femur during surgery as well. I think it accounted for a little more pain possibly, but that's all. My doc just told me my bones were pretty weak ( I knew I had osteopenia) He wired the femur, I see the wire on the x-rays. It all healed perfectly, no problems at all.
At 3 months post I was back to hiking and doing anything , except running.

It does happen on occasion. Sometimes they don't get noticed until the patient complains of pain some weeks later so you were luckier than some.

Thanks for your comments, I think there is a little more pain than the first time but I suppose this will reduce as the weeks go by so long as I do as I'm told.

Het Catwomen just checking to see how you were this morning. I hope you got some sleep..........Hang in there.......)

Hi, Catwoman! Hope each day finds you feeling better and better. I know it's frustrating to have to keep weight off your leg for now, but time will pass quickly and you'll be well on your way to a great recovery. Hang in there!!

Hi Kim and Jamie, I do feel a bit better each day. I'm doing my exercises to increase the flexibility so I expect once the 6 weeks is up and I can put weight on my leg a lot of the healing of the tissue will already be done. Then I'll have another 6 weeks to concentrate on my weight bearing before going back to work.

Hi
glad to hear you are feeling better each day. Although my femur cracked, my doc did not put any restrictions on weight bearing. It was just weight bearing as tolerated. It all healed and is just the best. I do love my new hip a lot!!!:thmb:
