Hi there everyone

had my op on wed 23rd sept and came home one week later on the 30th sept.
operation went really well opted for the epidural and a sedative which worked really well for me apart from fainted in the pre med room. went into theatre fully awake and saw them put up the screen and then nothing untill recovery room.
was then on a morphine on demand buzzer thing which worked really well and was out of bed next day. only had one bed pan and then able to go to bathroom. started physio straight away but could only get 62 and they wanted 75 before letting me go home. in the end they let me go home with an appointment for staples out on the 5th oct and then off work to recuperate for 4 weeks.
not geting much sleep as the pain is like a toothache but taking co codamol and paracetamol and also ibuprophen.
in all not as bad as i expected and the other patients help you to get through. am supposed to be having the other knee done in about 6 to 8 weeks. canttell you how much i have appreciated this website and the information sharing. i am really soft and was able to get the courage to go ahead. will keep you all informed.

I'm glad for you that you are doing so well! Don't forget to ice and rest.... secret to getting well. Your body needs to rest as well as doing your P.T. Congratulations and welcome to the other side. Please keep us informed as to how your doing!
Blessings to you
Nancyo

Im glad your home and that part is over keep working at PT you will get there ....best wishes for ya !!!!!!!!!!!..............) oh and sorry about the sleep that will come in time as well..........

So glad to hear you are home! Doesn't it feel great!!! Make sure you ice, elevate, rest and do your PT.

Keep up the good work. You are starting out great. Not sleeping well seems to be a common thread among us TKR patients. They gave me sleeping pills in rehab to help...and I have continued to use them...per doctors orders. :thmb:

Hi, Newfie....great report, hon!!! Keep up with your pain meds and don't forget some stool softners too. You're doing just great!

Co-codamol and ibuprofen? Who wrote you up for that? It's barely headache pills! You need something way stronger than that, especially when you start doing physio. Ring your GP and tell him/her it's not controlling your pain (which it isn't) and please can you have something stonger. I'm sure they'll write you up for something better than that.

Newfie,
Listen to Jo she knows!!!! I was in pain when I
came home with the first knee. And she said
call and ask for something different!!! And that
is when I found out that no one was ever sent
home with what I was sent home with!!! The
Nurse there could not believe it!! I was given
new Meds right away.

Gosh, is that a fact, calling? I missed that! I must be wiser than I think!

I've had good luck with my gp also. I just call him and he helps me out. I'm gonna call him again this week to get something for nausea. Everytime I have PT I get a little nauseous and could use something to help me through that.

It's the pain that's causing you to feel sick. Try more pain killers. There might be something else you can take afterwards that will be compatible with what ever you're taking routinely.
