Reverse Shoulder Replacement Back again

Thanks. I’m amazed at how down I am about this. Seems that my shoulder and arm hurt more. I’m definitely having more difficulty sleeping…finding a not too uncomfortable position

I’m still on schedule for Jan 21 for a rsr on the left. Meanwhile, mid October I noticed some pain in my right shoulder where I had a rotator cuff repair three years ago. This was after a particularly active period so I thought it would go away. It didn’t. Finally saw my ortho. Nothing on x-Ray. Exam consistent with rotator cuff tear! Had an injection that really felt good for three days but now sometimes it hurts more than the pre-op shoulder! The plan is to go ahead with the rsr on the left. Get MRI on the right a few months post op and go from there. Now I find myself planning around which one hurts least! Most of the time I use the pre op side since it’s going to get replaced anyway. Is there a good way to work with two bad shoulders?

Ouch! While the other shoulder is in worse pain, from all I've heard about recovery would say that you'll recover from RSR before you would from rotator cuff repair. That order may get you thru all of this quicker! Hang in there - you have a plan and know the path to get where you need to be!

The other will also be a rsr. My surgeon has an upper age limit for rotator cuff repair-75. I just barely made it when he did it 3 years ago. Right now I’m just befuddled about navigating day to day activities between these two bum shoulders‍

Can you select which shoulder to do first? If so, which one do you have more pain? Which one has greater functionality? Several of our members that needed both hips replaced did the one the doctor said was the better of the two first because it was the most painful and problematic. The scans can't always know what the body is feeling.

I had a year of medical management on the left shoulder: injections, home pt, icing, Rx nsaid before getting to the surgery point. I have had one injection in the right shoulder with brief relief. Using the same home routine. My understanding is that we’re going to try this approach before making the surgery decision. I’m right dominant. There’s some level of discomfort in the right shoulder even with normal things. It is more bearable than the left. I think for some reason I’m favoring the right shoulder. Maybe I’m afraid of doing more damage.

Hi,
Looks like it’s a go for my left reverse shoulder replacement surgery Friday, Jan 21! Have had all of my pre-op consults, exams, including Covid. Surgeon said four weeks in the sling. Should be able to do my PT myself. Also said I should be able to drive after two weeks! I’m not making any plans around that! The hospital has me doing the spirometer 5 times a day. Antibacterial body wash for 3 days before and two pre-surgery Ensure drinks-one the night before the other within 5 minutes of check-in. Set up for an overnight stay but probably will be able to leave same day. Actually, surgeon said he’s encouraging same day discharge given the Covid situation.
I’m so ready
