My husband and I want to have another baby. Has anyone out there had one after hip replacment? We have a daughter thats 5 now and we dont want them to far apart but also dont want to do anything to messup my recovery. Im 28 and almost 4 months out and doing great!

Well since you'd be over a year by the time of delivery, assuming you fell right away, I wouldn't let it bother you! Crack on and get that baby made!

One thing though - you have to come back and tell us all about it, post piccies and such!

oooh! Our first baby!

Oh my gosh! How exciting! Our forums 1st baby! I don't know about the hip replacement ( I'm sure Jo is right) but my daughter had two children after having two 22 inch bars placed down either side of her spine for sever scoliosis. She did great even through natural childbirth! She has more guts than I do.
So if we put it to a vote.... I suppose you'd better buy a crib in a hurry. You know how this group is. We all tend to get involved! Do let us know about future "developments"
Blessings on you and your family!

Can't help here, but my OS didn't think there would be any problem if we decide to have another. The only thing he cautioned me on is to be careful how much weight I gain as that would be additional stress on the hips, back etc.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Heidi, I had major reconstructive surgery of my hip and pelvic area though not an actual hip replacement when I was 26. There's a picture of my hip somewhere on this forum. It took me about 15 months to recover and walk without an aid.

I also wanted another child. After discussing with my doctors, I got pregnant right away and had my daughter by scheduled c-section 2 years after the original accident. I had no problems carrying her and the only thing different from my first two kids was the c-section which I had fully expected. I have about 25 screws holding me together and I worried one of them was going to poke the baby in the head but I guess it didn't happen. :') She's 18 and sitting next to me right now. Seems about as perfectly fine as an 18 year old can be. Good luck! Karen

Heidi, I'm 26 and scheduled for my THR in March. I'm planning on having children in my future as well. My doctor advised it would be OK. Keep me posted.

Wow girls!!!! Hope the Bonesmart Family continues to grow! Have fun! Not too tough a predicament to be in, that's for sure! Definitely keep us posted!

This is just too, too cool! Who'd have thunk it!

I forgot to add, there is a lady on a NZ parenting forum I am on who had an osteotomy? who then went on to have a baby, making the decision to deliver via c-section. Our forum has had quite a lenghty discussion about bad hips and having babies but I am the only one whose had a THR (post babies) and she the only other one whose actually had hip surgery.
