I had Arthiscopic Knee Surgery 8 weeks ago...apparently my knee is bone on bone and my therapist doesn't want to touch it because it keeps filling with fluid and swelling up. Last visit to specialist he drained a substantial amount of fluid from my knee and gave be a shot of cortisone. He says that not much can be done once it is bone on bone. What I would like to know from others is that have I given this enough time to recouperate from the Arthiscopic Surgery,,,I am still in a great deal of pain and am having difficulty sleeping, I have yet to drive a car or go back to work as I cannot stand or walk for any great deal of time. Grocery shopping is a nightmare, I have to hang onto the buggy for support and then when home I have to wrap my knee in ice because of the pain and swelling. I think I'm going to need a replacement sooner than later, but how long should I give myself before I don't expect any further improvement from the Arthiscopic Surgery?

Could be this is as good as it gets for you, my dear. As a rule. surgeons won't want to do a replacement until at least 12 weeks post because of the risk of infection of two ops too close together.

If it is really bone on bone that could be the cause of your pain rather than the scoping. However, I was still struggling up to eight weeks after my scope but not to the degree you describe.

I suggest you have a chat with your surgeon as it's rather his decision a) how long he waits between the two and b) whether the time is right for your replacement.

I wish you all the best for a happy outcome.

Had an appointment with my specialist Monday...8 weeks post of for Arthriscopic Knee Surgery......He has decided that this is as good as it is going to get and I am now on waiting list for knee replacement. Probably will be in September. Not looking forward to it.
