been just about 12 weeks and hit a plateau, although I'm hobbling better and at work, can't get past 100 to 105 on a good day... physio has been lovely but said it may be that the partial knee is not for me and may need to think about more surgery !!! So frustrated really seeing thes surgeon in mid march, doing my exercises and on my feet all day.. funnily enough have had to change my work trousers to flannel as I get very tender where the metal is on my femur and still numb down the other half of my knee, felt I was doing so well but gutted now that we have hit a brick wall, had got this done to get back cycling and walk properly again.... Has anyone got any tips??

Yes, don't be so quick to fall into the doldrums! You could still make up the extra as three months is nothing. Before you write off the hemi, an MUA could help. Wait till you see the surgeon.

I had a total, but I know that I kept gaining ROM well after three months. One of my biggest gains came at about 6-7 months, going from 120 to 130. I think at 3 months I was still having problems bending enough to easily get in and out of the car.

Hang in there! And please let us know what the OS says?

I had BTKR and was stuck at around 102/105 at 3 months and the OS though about MUA but I went with more intense PT. Even the the PT thought we would not get much more but we kept at it for 6 months (with inpatient pt and home total of 7 months) and by the end of December we had 115-117 on the right and 121 on the left. I continued my home exercise program and went back for a final check at the end of January and the right one was 120 and the left 122. I still ride my bike every day as well as my other exercises and stretches.

It was slow but we got there

I agree, I'm at 12 weeks RTKR and I'd be in the 100 mark. I have given up getting hung up on the numbers, being an over achiever I'd just end up so frustrated if I paid too much attention to them, and they weren't increasing, so as long as I feel like my bend and stretch is getting better and I can do more as time goes on, I'm happy!

Chris :)

Hi

I am with Aussie on this one. I know I can bend my knees about 100 - 110 degrees but I am not hung up on the numbers. I think one thing this forums has taught me is we all need a lot of patience. This is a long road to recovery

At 9 weeks out my last measurement was 94 degrees (my knee had quite a bit of swelling that day and didn't bend so well) but that's so much better than my other knee was at this point which I had MUA at 2 months post and never really got better than 100...until now with my other surgery it's gotten better rom. My OS said that is ok at this point to be less than 100. I also agree that if you can bend and stretch ok you shouldn't worry about the numbers. It'll come.

its terrible patience is not my second name, but thanks yet again all for the words of advice, extra PT would be fab but not likely in the UK wothout paying £5 a session, which I can't afford to be honest... Feel better after all the comments from you all!!

god my spelling please forgive me soooo tired from the crazy work place!!! Meant £35 a session!!! Saw PT again yetserday still no joy, so not sure where to go, still have pain waiting to see chronic pain team next week and knee surgeon on 4th march... Wierdly I have more numbness than before but PT said not to worry too much ( I am a terrible worrier guess thats why I nurse others!!!)

Yea I'm stuck around there. Had both done at the same time. The left gets better everyday. The right is a different story. I have to work much harder with the right. I ride my stationary bike everyday. Both are stiff though the right is a little harder to bend.

can't even ride that....

Sorry things are not going so well yet. I related to your post totally. My spelling has gotten atrocious, I am a worrier and have no patience with myself!!!!

Have you ridden a stationary bike at all in therapy? I am a hippy, but i thought with knees that is pretty standard?

HI Gayle....for my LTKR I was stuck right around 100 to 105 for a long time. I could function just fine and do what I needed to do, so I didn't worry. Then without really realizing it, it made some big leaps at about the 6 to 8 month mark. I had continued to exercise, mostly biking, but wasn't doing any formal PT. I'm wondering if maybe swelling is a limiting factor and when it finally goes down, our ROM goes up?
