Hi everyone.....new to the board. It's great to have a place to hear other people's experiences. Going through this stuff can be tough, lonely, isolating, etc....

My story so far....I had 2 full thickness tears in the supraspinatus tendon that happened when I was moving some furniture in November of 2021. I had the rotator cuff repaired on 3/08/22. Recovery was brutal, sleep was infrequent at best but I eventually made some progress. By June, my rehab stalled and I needed to get a manipulation under anesthesia to break up the scar tissue.

After the MUA and a month or so more of therapy, things started feeling pretty good. I would estimate that I was back to about 95%. Things were going along normally until a couple days into the new year when my arm and shoulder kind of locked up while I was bowling. The pain was so bad that I sit the last of my 3 league games. I figured it was just tight or that I didn't warm up enough. Unfortunately, the pain didn't get any better.

I went back to my orthopedic surgeon's PA because the pain wasn't going away. I had an MRI done and did a steroid pack. No improvement after the steroid and the MRI was "inconclusive". At the next follow up, I had a cortisone injection and did some PT. Still no improvement, so at the next follow up, I was given a 2nd cortisone injection. Once again, no improvement. I saw the surgeon on Thursday and after an examination, he determined that I had a tear in the subscapularis tendon, along with a tear at the proximal end of the biceps tendon and likely damage to the labrum, which is all causing the shoulder capsule to be unstable.

I am scheduled for surgery on July 5th. I can't believe I have to do this all again. Thanks so much for listening.

@primetime Welcome to BoneSmart! OUCH! I am so sorry to see you are having to have a 2nd repair surgery on your shoulder. Yes those recuperations can be brutal! You can use the search function here to find other treads related to rotator cuff repair. Is your surgeon going to just repair the tears or has he suggested a shoulder replacement?

Shoulder replacement was not discussed. The new tear is going to be repaired and I'm going to have a biceps tenodesis. Not sure what's going to happen with the labrum. I got the impression that the doctor will need to see what's going with the labrum once he's in there.

I just got my pre op paperwork. It's getting real again.

The blessing in all of this, if there is one, is that I'm going to get to enjoy my summer vacation (6/25 to 7/2) prior to going under the knife. Also, having been through the procedure a little over a year ago, at least I know what to expect.
