Last week I notified my insurance company of my upcoming surgery and the date, etc.

I got a letter today from my ins. company saying that I am eligible for ONE day in the hospital!! Well, I don't even know where to start tomorrow (Monday morning.) I'm going to have to call the doctor's office, the lady at city hall that handles our insurance, and then maybe she will deal with the insurance people. I'm not that worried about it because I know it will get fixed. It's just another thing to have to put up with.

It never stops! Call first thing in the morning when someone has their most "sense!". Good luck! l

I think they will fix it. I dont think anyone can get out in one day...Id bring the pain pump home with me then...lol...Yea I know you cant. But call I think they will clear it up...Good lUck though ins co's....ugh!!!!!!!!!!

Have your doctors office call and let them know how long you will be there. Also, call the hospital and have them re clear the amount of days. Then you need to call your insurance company and ask them were did they get 1 day and then give them the number of days your doctor says you need

You do need to call. But I'm betting they tell you not to worry that if your doctor says you need to be there longer (which of course he will), the approval will be extended. Blue Cross did that to me one time and it really freaked me out. But you should check just to be sure.

Beth, I got the same approval prior to my surgery...from Anthem (BC/BS). It freaked me out at first, but I figured the doctors/hospital would get everything worked out so they'd get paid. In my case, it was just "administrative." They initially approve just the one night, and then the doctor tells them you need more.
I ended up there 3 nights/4 days and it was completely covered. Hope this is the same for you!

Yes, after MULTIPLE calls, waiting for people to call me back, getting the right person, listening to "menus" on the phone lines........I have been approved for 3 days, and they got the right date this time. IF I need additional days, my doctor's office can contact my ins. and they can be approved.:hissy:

Well, that's something of an improvement, anyway.

don't worry. Mine always approves a small amount at a time. My last back surgery I ended up there for 10 days. I eventually got letters approving a few more at a time.
judy

IMO-with all that we pay for insurance it should be a LITTLE more user friendly!
Blessings to all who are having this fight.
