Hi everyone! I'm home, post-op day 3, and still haven't read through all the messages, and this post will be short cuz I'm sleepy.

Anyway--because my knees seem to name themselves, this one is now called "Dave." No idea why, but that's the name that kept popping into my head. Stella is happy to have a companion that works. :)

Boy, talk about night and day differences between the surgeries! Pain protocols DO make a difference, and I'm careful to take pills every three hours even if I think I'm feeling "OK."

Other big difference is this surgeon had a drain in the knee for two days. My swelling has been minimal and stiffness seems to be better than before, along with ROM--I can already do 90 degrees pretty easily and was able to get into the front seat of the car!

Anyway, more details will come out over time, but my sleepiness is quickly overtaking me.

Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes...I'm sure that's another reason why this surgery and recovery so far has been such a contrast to the first TKR. I didn't find this group until I was about 4 or 5 weeks out last time and this time one of my first thoughts after getting home was letting you all know I was fine (but napping interfered with that one too!).

Hugs to all!

Weezy

Glad your surgery went well, I to had the drains in and believe they greatly help with swelling and inturn ROM. Keep up the meds during PT and all will be well.

Good luck!

Weezy.......hooray!!!! You're home! I hope things go well for you and Dave and that Miss Stella doesn't get jealous of all the attention you give him. You are well on your way to a new life now, hon!!!

Welcome home Weezy! Doesn't it feel great to get that second one over with? Karen

Weezy I had the drain in my knee until the morning of the 3rd day --- when I went home. And the hospital transfused my own blood from that drain back into me. Which helped with strength etc since I didn't lose much blood that way. it's an outgrowth of the bloodless medicine they use now in many hospitals so people don't need to donate their own blood or take someone elses. I never thought about the drain in terms of swelling and ROM but now that I read your post -- of course, you are right. Where would all that blood have gone otherwise??? And it was alot of blood. I am now 12 days out and today I woke up and the swelling in my knee had gone down materially. My PT noticed it too and said the knee seemed "softer" in terms of bending it. I got a what seems like a big gain in ROM after he nearly killed me bending it today. He's going to measure again on WEd -- to send the report to my surgeon before I go for the staple removal ceremony!!! Congrats Weezy on getting home and on your way!!!

Welcome back Weezy! I am so glad you are doing so well. Before you know it Stella and Dave will be taking you everywhere you want to go in style!

Welcome back Weezy, Dave and Stella. Glad all went well for you :-) Hope you have an incident free recovery. ((((HUGS)))) Sue

It took me a lilttle while to open your post, being a hippy, I don't feel I can offer too much to the kneesies.

I love the naming. I was proud that I was thinking of coming up with a name for my daughter's cat based on my hip replacement. He arrived as I went off to have my hip done!! What a way to sneak in a pet.

Glad to hear things are going so well for you. I bet you are glad the second knee is done!
Happy Healilng Dave
