Administrative note: It appears from the information in the article that he received a reverse shoulder replacement rather than a standard replacement, making this feat even more notable since the rotator cuff muscles that provide strength and flexibility for the shoulder joint are not functional because of damage. Instead, with a reverse replacement, the deltoid muscle take over those functions and the patient has to "relearn" how to use their shoulder with this accommodation.
