Hi Everyone,

I'm a rare visitor these days - in the Pyrenees with little access to the net. But, just saw Melissa's x-ray (Great visuals, Melissa!!) in the thread on Leg Length Discrepancey. As we all know, LLD can be actual or apparent, and apparent can be caused (often is) by a tilted pelvis. So, I'm posting here a method to align the hips. I still havn't figured out how it works, but I've used it on dozens and dozens of clients, and it is hightly effective; and has the great advantage that you can do it by yourself.

One word of caution, some of the movements may not be suitable for you if you've only recently had Surgery. If Jo could comment on any safety issues, that would be great.

So, here it is.

How to Do Your Own
Hip Alignment

PURPOSE:
To level the bone structure of the hips

PROCEDURE:
1.**Stand with your feet together, hands on top of your head. Have someone stand behind you and settle their hands onto the top of your hip bone on both sides of your body at your waist. Have them notice if the top of the hip bone is higher on one side than the other. If so, you need to align your hips. If both sides are even, your hips are in proper alignment and you do not need to do this procedure.

2.*Spread your feet about shoulder width apart, with your toes pointed inward. Keeping your back straight up and down, and without allowing your feet to move, slowly bend your knees and lower your body (like a "deep knee bend" exercise) as far as you can without discomfort. OBEY THE 90% RULE IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY HAD THR. Still keeping your back straight up and down and your feet in the same position, return to a standing position. Repeat this action three times.

3.**Without moving your feet, rotate your hips in a large circle five times toward the lowest side . That is, if your right hip was lower, rotate clockwise five times; if your left hip was lower, rotate counterclockwise five times.

4.**Without moving your feet, do five more hip rotations in the opposite direction (toward the high-hip side).

5.*Without moving your heels, pull your toes toward each other (pigeon-toed) as far as possible. Do three more body dips (like step 2), being sure to keep your heels on the floor and your toes pointing inward. (DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO INWARDLY ROTATE YOUR FOOT AFTER YOUR THR)

6.**With your "low-side" foot, take one "giant step" forward, straightening your foot so that when you put it down it is facing straight forward. Bring your back foot forward to join its mate, and stand up nice and straight.

7.**Have your partner check your hip alignment again by repeating step 1.

8. If your hips are still out of alignment, you may repeat this entire routine two or three times if necessary. If you are still out of alignment, let it rest for a few hours then try again. Remember, if you have been out of alignment for a long time, it's going to take your body a long time to heal itself.

Good Luck,

Enjoy it All

Nick

How intriging that is, Nick. Couldn't quite visualise the whole thing but I'm always intrigued by my chiropractor's manoeuvres!

Nick!! I was wondering where you had gone! The Pyrenees didn't even cross my mind! LOL
I miss your posts on here - hope you are doing well and recovering quickly! Take care,

Peta

Wherever beautiful mountains are, there's our Nick! We've missed you! :)

Here's what I think of when I hear Pyrenees. My Great Pyrenees, Rex

Nick, I'm looking forward to trying your manipulation instructions above. From a standing Xray, my hips look like they are 29mm out of alignment measured from the top of each ball of the hip. Karen

Great looking dog, Karen!

Karen! We can see that Rex is King! Is he a gentle warrior? He looks beautiful!!! :)

He'd scare the bejeebers out of ME if I was on the bad end of his bark!!! But he's really beautiful. Does he sleep on the bed with you???? He's soooo big!!!

No dogs or cats in bed with me. If I let all 4 of them in, there would be no room for me!

Okay, Karen....I HAVE to ask! Is your avatar a pin cushion because you like to sew or......because sometimes you feel like one with all the pokes and prods from medical staff??? I know you have a great sense of humor, so I'm leaning toward the second meaning.....

I do know how to sew but don't have much time for that these days. Yes! You got it right. I feel like a pin cushion! You know me!

That's what I thought....I was getting quite a chuckle at your wonderful sense of humor!!! Hope you're doing okay these days!

Jamie,

Keeping busy with work and doing a lot of overtime. I now work over at Bolling Air Force Base in S.E. DC. Not the greatest neighborhood. (Same agency) I work across the street from where the president's helicoptors are often parked and I'm thinking about asking them if they will give me a ride to and from work each day and save me the 110 mile round trip drive through all the traffic. Think they might consider that? :')

I'm looking at having my hip replaced maybe in the fall. I want to go visit some other OS's that do resurfacing and anterior approach but I have to wait until things die down at work and I can breath again.

Are you getting rained out in KC? If we get much more, I'll be taking a boat to work.

Karen, it has really been a monsoon spring here so far. I hate that we've had so few sunny days. Fortunately there hasn't been a lot of flooding, just consistent clouds and rain. The grass has to be mowed every 3-4 days!! And it's too wet most days to do any meaningful yard cleanup. So we just putter along on the few sunny days we've had and hope we'll be able to get everything done. This is what you have to look forward to in retirement!!! You'll love it! Heck, just not having to make that drive you do in DC will be like having a whole new life!!

Take care of yourself and keep in touch now and then....especially as Hip Day draws near. Maybe some day you'll get out this way or we'll get to DC. It would be fun to meet you in person. (((HUGS))))

I'm still around the forum two or three times a week for a quick look but haven't had as much time to participate like I used to. Since I've still got a couple more joints to replace, there's always something new to learn or to share.

I'd like to see you too Jamie. I'm not sure if I'll be making the trip to KC this summer but wll let you know if I do. Hugs to you too!

I can't remember the last day that it didn't rain. ugh.....
