Hi there, further to my previous post - my dad's still immobilised in a hospital (in Spain). Because of his immobilisation he's developed bed sores - so they've put him on an air bed. This is better for his sores - but he's experiencing mild pain in his newly replaced hip, and is anxious that the air bed is doing his hip no good.

Everything I've read on the subject of recovery seems to revolve around movement - but because the upper part of the hip is "floating" and has not "fused" the doctors in Spain seem to think that immobilisation is best at the moment.

More advice welcomed!
Many Thanks,

Celestine, in your other thread you said your father had already had the cup replaced once. Yet he's still having problems and had a dislocation. I'm assuming the same doctor who did the initial surgery performed this replacement and is the one telling him he must be immobile for the hip to "fuse."

I still feel that my original suggestion is a good one. In my opinion, your father needs to be seen by a surgeon in a totally different practice for an independent second opinion. Is this possible for you?

Is he an American citizen? If so go to the American Embassy
let them know what is happening and see if they have a recommendation for a doctor or a way to get him back to America.

Wow I agree something doesnt seem right.........I wish the best for him but bed sores etc........My prayers will be with you all............I hope it all works out soon........

It's not the first time I've heard these 1950's techniques being used and they do no good at all. If he's had one or more dislocations it's because his socket's been put in at the incorrect angle and needs redoing. Immobilisation is not going to fix that. I said that before.

Now he's got pressure sores and next thing is, he'll get an MRSA infection and then it'll go to his hip. I strongly advise you to get him out of there and get a second opinion.
