THR Ahipgma recovery

You've got this!
Healing hugs in advance.
Bye bye hip pain:yahoo:

@ahipgma I'll leave your reading list here for you to refer to. Looking forward to following your journey.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of this BoneSmart philosophy for sensible post op therapy
5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for THRs
6. Access these pages on the website

Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. Best wishes today. We'll be waiting for you!

Good luck, you'll be on your way to a pain free life soon!

Thanks everyone!
My first night home peaceful slumber due to oxycodone!
However when I sat at the breakfast table i felt faint
Took my blood pressure and it was 64/37!
I hurried to the couch ,elevated my feet and drank 2 big glasses of water.
Much better now but that faint feeling is scary.
Glad to be home though.
PT coming to check out the house and work with me.
Wont let them overdo it!
Hope all all the recent hippies are making a little more progress every day.
Love my ICE.

Glad you're at home where you're able to get some uninterrupted rest, except for the PT of course. My PT checked my blood pressure on visits so perhaps yours can do a double check to make sure all is good. That was very low this a.m.!

I just mentioned it to my daughter who is a RN. She advises you to go to Emergency with that low a BP. She refers to it as dangerously low and could be a sign on bleeding internally or other significant issues. Please consider going in!

At the very least, call your doctor........as Carriemay mentioned it's nothing to mess with.

Hi all
thanks for your concern.
My hemoglobin was in the 14s going in and in the 12s leaving the hospital, so a little blood loss there.
I'm an RN too so got on the couch, elevated my feet and drank water and ate pretzels (for the salt)which brought me up to 117 /61.
When PT came it was 127/71!
Also was a nervous wreck about what PT would try to do but all he did this time was range my hip very gently--it felt good and ranged my knee some, that felt good too because it was stiff. He cased my house over and gave me some safety suggestions and approved what chairs I can sit in. I will forever be grateful for the rest elevation and ice mantra though it has been just that I need

:ice::ice:
Glad you are home and isn't that ice just NICE.
Hope BP stays evened out and I'm glad that PT didn't insist on making that new hip perform.
Healing hugs...:console2:

Happy to hear you are doing better; you had me a bit nervous! Hopefully it will stay steady now and you can enjoy all the other ups & downs of recovery :)

Sending some lovely English healing vibes. Hope you have an easy recovery . x

Blood pressure holding steady today.
Have had time for some random thoughts about the surgery itself.
I have to get a second hip done so this info is comforting to me.
I read a lot of recovery threads before my surgery and there was apprehension, yes.
I had the spinal with moderate sedation and it was wonderful.
I remember nothing.
They gave me a cocktail of Celebrex, tylenol and 20 mg oxycodone before they even started.
So I was kind of in LALA land before I even got to the OR. That oxy dose is a whopper.
Don't remember the spinal going in. Only remember a little of the OR.
And after it seemed like the spinal kept me pain free for a little while before they gave me the iv drugs postop.
They know their stuff, I was well cared for
Next time I wont be afraid of the surgery itself.
I have been a bedside nurse all my life
How different it is when it's you are in the bed! But I would say dont be afraid of the surgery--- just steel yourself for recovery!

Glad that BP is holding. The last thing you need just post op is a fall! :yikes: Keep that ice going - it really does help ease the swelling.

Interesting POD 5.
Was awake in the middle of the night
And got up feeling weepy and discouraged.
The PT came and was so pleased with my progress and encouraging
The work he does with me is still extremely gentle stretching and manipulation and he prefaces every move with "tell me if this hurts" and so far nothing has.
He got me to try the cane and do steps
So I went on outside for the first time since surgery and looked at my garden
Did a little light kitchen work and sat up and walked around alot so promptly overdid it and here I lay with my ice!
But it was good, though.
Tweaking my pain meds a little to get the most out of them--- this I feel qualified to do.
But I sure am glad it's not last week at this time!
My 87 year old mom is coming out to help me tonight and tomorrow
Can't wait to see her.
Hope all are well on their journey to painless days!
