Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read my post!

I'm on my way to possibly having bilateral hip replacement at the age of 28 (i'm 27 turning 28 in 23 days) and i know recovery is a long process but i was wondering after doing much research i know i would be able to have children but what about intimacy? Would i be able to be intimate again, would it change? How will i know its safe to start up again?

I know this is an embarassing topic but i was just curious about this and wondered what others thought about it or can give any insight to this for me! Thanks!!

:what:

You should have no problems having children. We have a number of young BoneSmarties who have gone on to do just that. As for intimacy, of course you'll be able to enjoy that. Here is an article from the BoneSmart Library to provide more information. There are also threads in the recovery forum with this topic. Do a search and you'll find additional information.

IN the long term, after all is recovered, I believe sex actually becomes better!! Usually there are positions you can try post op that you havent ever tried or havent experienced in a long time because of the pain or lack of flexibility. :thumb:

Of course its important to follow your restrictions post op but once those are lifted, give it a go! Take it slow at first and if at first you dont succeed try- try again.

It was about 2.5 weeks post op that my hubby and I got intimate for the first time.

Cant comment on having babies post THR, no more in my future but I dont see why you couldnt.

THR is supposed to give you your life back:biggrin:

Hello Mzshai,

Its a great question and an important concern. The library thread really covers some great information about intimacy.

Have you been given a date yet for your surgery or are you just in the beginning part of finding out you will need to have them replaced?

Welcome to Bonesmart also glad you joined us!

All the best,

Sarah

You will definitely be able to be intimate. Sometimes the hard part is finding what is most comfortable for you, but trust me, it can be done! As far as having children, I had twins 5 years after my right THR :).
