Please anyone. It has been about 2 1/2 months and I'm doing pretty well although my upper and lower leg aches and my knee still hurts here and there on the knee itself. Is this normal? Should I expect pain for some time?
Jayne

I think if your leg aches elsehwere it's more likely to do with the muscles being in spasm and inflamed. Are you still seeing your PT? If not, can you get back to see them? They could soon tell you if this is the case and what you can do to make it better. I'd also suggest that the aches here and there in the knee are actually from the muscles rather than anything to do with the joint itself. In the meantime, you could try to get some ease by taking over the counter anti-inflammatories and pain killers. I was still taking pain pills now and again until about 3 months so nothing to worry about.

I agree im now using muscles that haven't been used in so long yes the hurt but as you keep using them it will get better....Apparently muscles are very grumpy....lol...:)

Jayne, I had pain in various parts of my knee and leg for at least 6 months. It would come and go. I talked to my surgeon and he explained that if the pain moved around it was probably soft tissue swelling and not a worry. He recommended taking over the counter inflammatory meds for several days when it started. That did the trick and eventually it lessens.

I still get some pain like that if I really do a lot - even a year and a half out. Small price to pay for having a great, strong new knee!! An Aleve or two takes care of it, so I don't consider that a big problem.

Yes, the pain in my leg at 4 1/2 months around the knee is definitely muscle related and soft tissue swelling. The IT Band that starts at the hip/buttox area and runs to the tibia on the outside of the knee is my worst area. Working on Muscle Release Therapy with the Massage Therapist. She is great. Her husband had a TKR and she is very knowledgeable about the muscles relating to that area.

I really overdid it last week and took 3-4 days to recooperate. Hopefully that fresh reminder of pain will stay with me and I will be more aware and stop before I get too far gone.

I was like Jo still taking the stronger stuff until around 3 + months. Then 1 day, aleve and ibuprophen started being enough. It just sort of happens with time. Hard to be patient though.

Hope you are doing better and the pain subsides soon.

Blessings,

Thank you all! I feel so much better now.

Jayne--
Hope you areefeling better today. I find on the days I feel good, I tend to do too much and then I pay the price in pain the next day. I guess we all do it. Be good to yourself and know that it's all part of getting our lives back.

Blessings,
Irene
