Hi all,

This is TurboHip. I picked that name because I figure if I'm getting a new hip, it better be faster than the one I have now. :hehe:

I'm visiting because on Monday, Oct 5th, I'm seeing an ortho about ahip replacement. It's only been 7 months since surgery on my right hip for a labral tear but it has been a rough 7 months. The surgeon didn't believe me when I said I was in pain after 3 weeks, I had to fight for PT, the entire top of my leg from hip to knee was in spasm for 8 weeks and he said "it's just muscular and it needs to heal." Well, duh. I had popping and locking I didn't have before surgery and have to physically push on the back of my hip to unlock it. Well, it's just a long, long, story that I'm glad will be taken care of by those in other fields that make more money than I do.

Anyway, I'm 52, retired in Jan 09 and planned on just relaxing and enjoying time with my husband. I hadn't planned on that time being spent in Doctor's offices and hospitals. LOL I will be glad when this nightmare is over because I've had it with P A I N and a doctor who doesn't think you have it. It feels as though I have a migraine in my hip no matter how I sit or stand or walk and I'm sick of it.

After I got rid of him I had a bone scan and a CT, which show moderate to severe degeneration, all which occurred after his surgery. Oh, and a femoral head defect and he was the only one who messed with the femur in surgery because he shaved it to decompress the joint.

Anyway, I'm here and am glad I found you all. I've read several posts already and the only ? I have is about soft soled shoes. My doc (not the surgeon who screwed up) told me to wear soft soled shoes and they do help most of the time. Have those of you who've had your hips replaced also been told to wear them? If so, I'm going through my closet this week and getting rid of all the high heels, etc.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome and good luck yep seems like you need a new hip and once its over will you be able to do those things you want to to do.....Good Luck we will all be here for ya .................)

Welcome Turbo....we'll help get you to that new hip and the fun retirement life you dreamed of. What you've been experiencing is definitely NOT FAIR!!!

So glad to hear you dumped the first surgeon. What a dog!!! I hope one day HIS hip hurts and he repents for his poor attitude. You've found a good one to replace him, I hope. Be sure to go to this link for some questions to ask in your first meeting with the new surgeon. It will be the beginning of your new life!!! Good luck and keep in touch here. We'll provide whatever support you need to get you through Round Two.

Full speed ahead Turbo.

Tell hubby he better get in shape, because your about to get a whole lot faster.

Very good luck.

Ah - he shaved the femoral head? So now you have surgically induced arthritis! Nice one, doc! May I assume you are seeing a different surgeon now! (j/k)

Welcome to the BoneSmart family.

welcome . Sorry about your hip. I have to tell you at least that I do very much love my new hip. I had a hip scope first as my doc thought I had a labral tear, he found severe arthritis. So the replacement came next. Get a good surgeon and you will do great.

I put up with stupid hip syndrome for far too long, and now life is going along quite nicely! Go for it .....and get back to living life!

Hi there newbie. I, too, am a newbie of sorts. I am scheduled for THR on October 27th and it will be my first. I know I will have to have the second hip done some time later in life.

Anxiety is the most used word for me these days. I will confess to be moving off that word, and going more in the "preparation mode" so that I can have this event run smoothly for me.

I cannot wait to have this all behind me and have my life back. It has been over a year of pain, discomfort and well, hanging out in bed when not at work. Walking is very painful at best.

Here's to another brave person, willing to go for "elective surgery" so that they might have their life back in their control!

Welcome. Keep us posted.

Go for it!!! You won't regret it!!! And you'll get your life back!!!! (:)0)

Hi,

It sounds like you've really been through it!! and I can only add all best wishes for the next steps.

as for shoes - I haven't been told anything about wearing specific shoes (except actually in hospital for the op), and unless I am told differently in the next few weeks (I'm only three weeks out), then I'm looking forward to getting my heeled boots back on. I can't wear heeled shoes cos I need my insoles and have a dodgy right ankle, but I'm dying to both get into my heeled boots and also to be able to do the zips up!

I'm guessing other people who are further on than me can tell you better though.

Hey guys & girls, thanks for the support and good wishes. I passed on the wise words to hubby who just had some nasty cell masses removed from his right vocal cord yesterday. According to the doc, the biopsy will probably not be good so I'm trying to prepare for it.

Again, thanks for the wishes. I'll let you know how the Monday appointment goes.

 Our prayers are with both of you, Turbo!!

Oh bless you, Turbo. That's awful for you and hubbie.
