TKR A New Day

@Jcx this is so tough. I know you have to explore every possibility before making such a big decision but it's so hard to be the one to evaluate things when you get conflicting professional opinions. You seem like you have a very calm and reasoned way of doing things, but I feel for you trying to figure this out.

@AnnYo . Been nearly 3yrs since I had my tkr. Far from happy with the way things have turned out. So a revision is my only way forward. Take care jcx

Also he is arranging a physical examination with another surgeon.
I suggest you not go to another doctor that your current surgeon suggests. It is much better to go to another OS that doesn't know or have any affiliation with your OS. You need someone with a fresh, new look at your knee.

@sistersinhim . My mind is just about made up with my next move. So I feel I have nothing to lose by meeting up with the other OS. Take care jcx

@sistersinhim . Focusing on my revision at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle. Had a phone call off them to discuss getting ready for surgery. I've cut all my ties with the hospital that done my original TKR. So I will not be seeing the other OS they recommend. Take care jcx.

Getting my pre op done in the morning and awaiting the date for my revision. By the time I get the operation it will be about 3 years since I had my ltkr. What a 3yrs I've had trying to live with my new knee then to be told at the 2yr mark it was loose and had to have a revision. I have questioned my sanity many times and not looking forward to starting again from day one. It has to be done I can't live like this so here we go again. Take care jcx.

You have been through a lot and I can relate.

The constant doubt that you are not trying hard enough when you know you were exercising, icing, elevating through the roof...folks who say you can just live with it... or just that you feel that maybe this is the best I can expect from surgery?

I hope the revision surgery is very, very soon and you have the quickest turnaround ever!

hugs from Canada!

@2chains Thanks for the support and I do hope I have a quick turnaround and get my life back. Busy making lunch for my family they have been on holiday to Iceland and are due back soon. Take care jcx

I do hope you get a date soon and all is successful! I’m sorry this has been a disappointing experience. I can certainly relate.

Good luck with your pre-op tomorrow. I am sorry for the misfortune of needing a revision and facing a second recovery. Please know there are many stories of successful revisions -> HERE on BoneSmart. We'll be available to support you through it all so please lean on us whenever you feel the need.

@Jcx, I'm glad to hear you've had your pre assessment, at least this means you're moving towards your op date., which is not what any of us want when we start this process. I think you were right not seeing further surgeons, it would only complicate matters, now you've got your course of action.
I'm still amazed how many people think that a knee replacement is a sail through procedure for everyone, when in fact it's not. I think there doesn't seem to be any logic to who has a good TKR and who doesn't. I know people who have had knees done at Freeman and Shields that have had no problems.
My knee is better, of sorts. It's very stable ( always has been) but only bends to 90 /95 degrees ( which it did at a week post op) which is limiting. It also still feels very tight but I can walk on it very well ( getting up and down of the floor is another story) At nearly two years, I think this is as good as it'll get.
Wishing you a speedy recovery when you have your op. I'll check in to see how you're progressing.

@Anniemof After 2yrs and still not happy have you considered a second opinion. It's 3yrs since my TKR and I'm at my wits end. I have had my pre op but don't know when my operation will be. It's been far from a sail through recovery and some people just don't get it. But this is the position I'm in can't go on like this but don't really want a revision but I've no choice. Tramadol helps but hopefully the revision will give me the pain free mobility I want. Sorry for the pity party but sadly my situation has got me beat. Take care jcx

I agree! The first year or so we are blamed for a poor outcome, being told we didn’t work hard enough. However, there are no exercises to fix a surgery that didn’t go as expected.

@Anniemof I did see a small improvement in my third year, maybe you will too. My ROM, which looked so good in my follow-up appointment notes, because my surgeon was able to force it where he wanted it, is somewhat lacking in real life today.

@Jcx I hope you get your surgery soon and it’s very successful.

@Jcx, i can understand how you're at your wits ends, I think at times you feel like you're going crazy and it's out of your control. I really hope you get a date soon, not that anyone what's a revision but you can't go on the way you are, after three years, you need the problem sorting. Once you've had your pre assessment they have a set amount of time before the have to do your op but I can't remember the time scale. ( I used to be a District Nurse) Maybe if you haven't heard in the New Year, ring Prof Deehan's secretary and see if there's any progress on a date. Have you asked about being on the cancellation list? If not, that might be worth trying also. Have they given you any indication of time scale? I'm keeping everything crossed that you get a date soon, I think the not knowing when is the worst bit.

@Anniemof . I was thinking of phoning them so when you said phone I took your advice. To cut a long story short they have given me a date of 30th January. Also they have took note that I would be willing to take a cancellation. During the phone call I felt like a turkey getting excited for Xmas. Take care jcx.

Congratulations on getting a date, @Jcx

Just want to confirm so I can add it to your signature that you will be have a TKR revision January 30, 2025. Is that correct?
