THR "A little noise"

Sounds like you are doing very well @Bob S ! The slow and steady approach works every time. Well done!

Thanks ... I feel great .... Like the rest of us " veterans " on here it now becomes my task to support others as I was and am supported....

Hello @Bob S

Sounds like you are having a stellar recovery so far. Love your optimism getting those clubs clean for your future T time. Best of luck to you in your recovery.

@Bob T Cleaning your clubs? You are enthusiastic! Hope all goes well with PT.
My OS has patients do PT and OT at home. We will see how that goes when the time comes.

Uncivil" , I thought it was interesting that your PT is held for four weeks post surgery ...

Hey there Bob :wave:
Some surgeon's advise waiting even longer and some don't prescribe PT at all, only walking since in most instances PT is not really needed. Many fully recover without it. With that said, I hope you enjoy your session today. Take it slow and don't do anything that hurts....it's not necessary.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
@Bob S

Walking 200-300 yards several times a day ....Like so many have said here , "walk, walk," ... Taking it to heart .... YES, cleaned my clubs knowing all the time it's only a putter for a while .... Did feel really good to get them in my hand ... It's been since April .... I did order a sock aide as still shoes and socks are a problem . Hope to get some insight on that at therapy today ...

Hello to all... Things continue to improve on my end ... Walking on a treadmill, continuing the PT exercises all with little or no pain ... I can feel that #3 wood in my hands as i'm writing this ...
On a slightly different note . Is anyone familiar with a drug , Gabapentin ? I have been on 300 mg for quite some time for disc/ back problems . The prescriber of that medicine is an Interventional Pain Specialist, MD. I had seen him several months ago while dealing with my hips ..He suggested I take the dose up from 300 mg to 600mg/ night which i did ..I. am now in the process of going back to 300mg on a titration schedule... Having a few side effects. Problems sleeping , slight anxiety ... Anyone ever have this when reducing the Gabapentin ? Thanks

It is good that you are weaning off slowly.
Some of the most common symptoms of gabapentin withdrawal include sweating, dizziness and fatigue. People may experience headaches, insomnia and other sleep disturbances, and muscle pain as well. It's common for people to have anxiety when they go through withdrawal from gabapentin, as well as depression.
I have never taken this medication, but have you talked to your doctor about your schedule for reducing the meds safely?

Here's an article in our library but do check with your doctor if symptoms worsen or cause alot of distress.
Maybe they will suggest you do it differently.

@Bob S Glad to hear you are doing so well! Sorry you are having issues getting off gabapentin. If I have issues with a med, I also talk with my local pharmacist as well as my prescribing doctor.

You're doing well, Bob.
Sorry about the withdrawal effects you're dealing with. Consider speaking with the pain specialist. Hopefully it eases soon.
Wishing you a pleasant weekend and sweet dreams of being on the course. It's coming! :happydance:
@Bob S

Thanks ....i am working with a Pain MD .. I have been for several years for L3/ L4 disc herniaion .... He is the person that increased the Gabapentin from 300mg to 600mg / daily several months ago . It was his thinking I may get some relief from OA prior to my surgery ... I didn't get much if any ... We are in the process of going back to the 300 now that I am pain free after my THR of last week .... Just want to be careful on the reduction schedule to avoid any potential withdrawal issues ...
One last question : I have read the Bone Smart position on PT to excess and agree completely... i have taken the position that my PT is to be limited and my thrust is walking primarily on a tread mill starting at a third of a mile and increasing as i feel comfortable... I continue to do the assigned PT exercises in my home and at my own pace... What are the thoughts of this position ... I find at this point any pain experienced after exercise or walking is managed with tylenol ...

@Bob S I totally agree with your way of moving forward with primarily walking. For now please don't set a goal of any portion of a mile. Walk until your hip tells you it's time to rest. No pushing. You will quickly increase your routine and your mobility. Tylenol, icing and elevating if needed. Sounds like you are doing really well!

just looking for a little insight .... Things were going great, Today is 11 days post LTHR ... I was having minimal pain when walking I was managing it with Tylenol ....walking every day .. doing PT and home exercises...I find that today I'm experiencing more pain in the groin area then in the past ... Sure hope this is not a harbinger of things to come ..and i may have overdone it .. oh well .... Good news is I see my OS on Weds for two week follow up ...

You're still early on in recovery so it could just be the aches, zips, zaps, etc are just moving around into other areas or you could be overdoing it some. If you aren't currently icing I would recommend that you take it easy for a day or two and ice at least 45-60 minutes 3-4 times daily. Ice is really your best friend right now.

Good luck with your two week follow up on Wednesday, please let us know how things go if you feel like sharing. Wishing you a restful weekend!

Good Morning .....
Just a quick update .... New hips feel terrific. one of 7/18 the other of 10/22 .... Walking without pain, medication use is only Tylenol taken PRN ....
with my OS yesterday for the two week post op appointment. He, like me ,could not be more pleased... Did shoot me down when I asked about chipping around a practice green , oh well I tried. He tells me that many of us rush activities as we feel so great without the pain that we were living with and want our full life back ASAP... Slow and steady pays off as we work through recovery ... He did suggest that i do 4 more PT sessions to work on ," gate mechanics " as my surgery leg foot is turning inward slightly. i'll do it begrudgingly as i have every confidence in him ... Just wanted to be free of that segment and do my exercise on my oun which i really enjoy ....

:mcoffee: @Bob S
Really love your OS. He wants his work to shine.

Yes we do...but forever hips are worth the patient recovery.
Slow and steady pays off as we work through recovery ...
Cant be said enough.

You'll be back to your life hip pain free in due time and I think you are doing splendidly!
