OK. So I am 11 weeks out from BTKR. My ROM is great. I will get it measured at the 4 month mark with the OS. I have not gone to PT since week 4 and ROM was 125 and 0.
My first set of questions:
How long do we wait to try to sit on the floor and then get back up off the floor?
I tried it last night from a sitting position on the sofa, sliding down to the floor. I did a bunch of leg stretches which felt good, but then had to figure out how to get up! I just used my upper body strength to lift me back up onto the sofa......
How am I supposed to get up off the floor with these new knees? Am I trying too soon or just scared to bend them enough to stand from a squat? Any suggestions on how or timing?

Second set of questions: Are we supposed to lock our knees?
If we are supposed to lock them, I have forgotten when are times they should be locked?
I have not done that in years, but found myself locking them in the shower the other morning.
Thanks!
Crystal

Crystal, I couldn't help but laugh about the getting up and down question. I remember getting on the floor to play with my dogs and then wondering what in the heck I had done and was I going to have to call for a crane.
If your rom is good, your difficulty might be from leg strength. At 11 weeks barring any other problems, it isn't too soon to be squatting. You might try to do some chair squats to strengthening the quads/butt, but increase your confidence . Get a kitchen chair and put it next to a counter you can hold on to. You might want to put a couple of pillows on the seat at first. Slowly squat down and then stand up. Do it 8-10 times. Do it several times a day. After a couple of weeks go a little lower.

As for locking the knees. I do it all he time now. If you have good extension, actually feels good. If you over extend, you might have to work on your hamstrings.

I also got down from the couch to the floor and thought well...now what? I rolled over onto my belly and got up that way. Oh what a struggle. I also lay on the floor and bend my knees or curl up. I get down onto the floor now more often to play with my dog.

I have locked my knee out after warming it up on the bike, but not long. It feels like a good stretch. It it hurts stop...and see your PT person about it.
