Hello all,:hissy:
I just came home from a 9day visit to the hospital from getting a blood clot. Gee its been 7 to 8 weeks out from surgery and I have done all the excersises correctly from the PT and I was doing small trips to the barn doing little chores.
My Doctor says that the Lovenox injections after surgery doesn't work for some people.:hissy:

I am now scared out of my mind about this and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Help!
Sheila

Hi Shelia Im so sorry. Tooyoung had a blood clot and is doing fine. Actually a few people have you can search it. Everyone that I have seen on here has been fine...Try not to worry so hard....I can imagine your nervous but sounds like they found it and are working on treating it..Thats good they got it......Take care of yourself and please keep us posted...You will be in my prayers !!!!!:)

I trust they gave you another medication? Aspirin, maybe? Don't worry. You've had this and got it sorted. I think you can rest easy now.

Hello,
I am on coumodin now for six months.
Jo-You said that now that I am being treated I can stop being nervous about it. My coumodin level is where the Doctors want it and I assume its alright to be up and walking around on it.
Sheila

The more active you are the better. Activity keeps the blood flowing and is the best preventative going.

Oh, Sheila....so sorry you had this happen. Don't worry about being on Coumadin. I've been on it for years for a heart issue. It in no way limits you. The important thing is to keep your numbers in line. That is easily done with consistency in your diet and meds. Do make sure to go for the blood checks on schedule. My nurse tells me the main mistake people make on Coumadin is that they try to self-medicate (meaning they change the dosage without telling anyone) and that they won't come for the checkups. I have gone religiously every month and have had no problems.

So sorry about your blood clot, Sheilan but glad it as fund early enough so you could be treated quickly! Hope you'll be feeling better before you know it! (:)0)

Hi Sheila,
I had the same experience after a previous knee surgery. One week after the surgery I got a DVT (blood clot). I was in the hospital for three days and was started on Lovenox then. I was also put on Coumadin and continued that for six months. I was also freightened at first not knowing anything about this situation. As time went on and being therapeutic on the Coumadin I became a lot less scared. I had an ultrasound just prior to coming off the Coumadin and there was no trace of the clot then. It is quite scary at first, but now that you are therapeutic on your Coumadin you'll be fine. Try to relax and time will ease your fears. Best of luck to you!

Ron,
Thank you so much for your reply. It is good to know of other people who came through this just fine. I will try and not worry so much and before I was released from the hospital they all said that I at the therapeutic level on Coumadin.

I had the VNA come out to see me yesterday and she said to sit with my leg up on a pillow and that just scared me more.
Sheila

Hey Shelia glad you are having that attitude do what you are supposed to and that's all you can do.We are all here for ya.I hope you come thru this now with flying colors..:) PS just spilled a whole cup of coffee all over my bed and husband is laying right next to it....but stop this post now !!!!lol...Kinda funny though...

Sheila, the leg up on the pillow is actually standard for anyone who has knee and hip replacements. It keeps swelling down....so don't let that worry you. It's just a good thing to do! You know our mantra....rest, ice and elevate!

how did you know you had a blood clot, Sheila?

Good Morning everyone,

Jo-I was told by my THR Doctor that when I get out of the hospital I can go about my business and sort of forget about the blood clot and now the VNA is saying stay home and put up leg and I am home bound. :pzld:

Creblue - My calf had a pain like a cramp that wouldn't go away and I decided to call the surgeons office and check out what is going on in that leg.

I think I caught it early by not waiting for it swell and stuff. It started to swell the day I went in for the utrasound test.

Sheila :sigh:

Oh boy! That's a bad place to be in. I'd go with the surgeon.
