I need to gauge a "what if" by the average of where all of you are or were at NINE WEEKS POST OP...

Our god-daughter and fiance have asked us to be the host and hostess at their wedding reception - I will be 9 weeks post op. Do you think that's something I'll be able to handle at that time (standing for that period of time?) or should I thank her and suggest she ask someone else? I am very honored that she has asked and we would LOVE to do it, but would I be realistic in accepting?

I am doing very well with my recovery and I really don't have to give her an answer yet, but wanted to hear your thoughts...

Laurie

I think I could have done it at 9 weeks in a comfy but stylish pair of shoes. And with the occasional option sit sit a bit. I progressed pretty quickly in my recovery, but 9 weeks is a good chunk of time after the fact, so you might be OK. Either way what a fun day. If you can wait longer to see how you feel, that would be good to help you guage.

At nine weeks I took my students to compete at the state high school culinary championships. I wore comfortable shoes and was on my feet a lot and walking, walking, walking for nearly a 13 hour day. I opted not to take my cane, but wished I had by the evening, but did sneak in a bit of time to sit and elevate my leg. I also managed to ice it down mid-afternoon. That helped a lot. I would suggest that you try to find some way to sit down some of the time---- maybe a tall stool if you want to stay at standing height?

The decision is yours--- but I think I could have done it at 9 weeks and it is quite an honor... and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Thanks for the posts - I do need to look for a nice pair of dress/comfortable shoes!

I am pretty sure I'll be able to do it too. It probably wouldn't be that long (compared to a 13 hour day for you) of a "stint".

I was planning a shower for this god-daughter when I had the opportunity to have this surgery and was able to attend her shower four days post op. Lucky for us, the other aunt and I had planned this shower at a local restaurant, so they were doing all the "work" for us for the shower. I was able to make it to the shower and sat for most of it, but got up and moved around to "visit" table to table so I wasn't sitting constantly the whole three hours. I brought my walker with me, but that ended up being in the way more than anything and I was able to walk unaided for the shower. I iced and rested alot when I got back, but I was so glad I was able to make it to her shower. She's a very special little girl to me (25 year old little girl).

So, hopefully, by 9 weeks post op, I'll be able to "handle" this honor. Thanks for your support.

Laurie, any excuse, I mean reason to go shopping...
And remember, these are the kind of things we fix our knees for.

How very true!
