I am 9 weeks on Monday after a BTKR and I feel like I am not progressing fast enough. Prior to my BTKR I had my Uni-Knee removed because they thought it was infected. I received IV antibiotics 2X a day for six weeks then had to wait a few more weeks prior to them being able to do the DKR. I am not able to go shopping without experiencing swelling and ache the following day. Is this normal?

Hello, wandare, and welcome to BoneSmart. I've moved your post into a thread of its own to make sure you get your own responses.

Now where in the world did you get the notion that after all you've been through you'd be able to bounce back THAT quickly! I am truly flabberghasted that you manage to get out of the house at all, never mind doing any shopping!! Are you sure that swelling and ache is all you experience? How bad is it? How are you the rest of the time? Are you resting enough? Elevating, icing and taking pain meds?

In other words, give us a lot more detail of your daily activities, PT, medication and all. Then we'll be more able to answer your question.

Please tell me what a DRK is. I am trying to get the lingo here, I know TKR and PKR but I am at a lost with DRK.

Wandare mentioned a DKR (not DRK). That was a new one on me, but I'm guessing she was referring to a Double Knee Replacement....maybe?

Sorry, you are correct. I must be really over tired when I can't see the letters straight. Thanks.

Yes, double knee replacement which is why I am flabbergasted at her casual

Golly gosh, I am just past the 9 week mark and feel I have been doing really well. I still only do small excursions to the shop, and after any exercise I can experience discomfort and I only had one done. From what I have read on here, we still have a while to go in our recovery so try not to rush things, it will all come in time.

Regards
Chris:)

I apologize for not using the right lingo..I am new at this...but yes..DKR....stood for double knee replacement...... Bilateral knee replacement.

I guess I am getting overly anxious as I was in a wheelchair due to the removal of my uni-knee for three months prior to my bilateral knee replacement. I do quite well at home as long as I keep my legs elevated and limit my activity. I have a deep whole leg ache for which I am taking Percocet every 6 to 8 hours. I have to option to move down to Vicodin ES which I am going to try to do this week. I am able to do some light housework. The only PT I have had is immediately after surgery, by the visiting nurse Physical Therapist for 4 weeks three times a week. My extention could use some improvement. I prop it up to work on that. My bend is excellent. Thanks so much for this forum. It is quite helpful.

I am at 9 weeks BI-TKR and have bee back to work for two weeks. My DR. was floored when I ask to return to wor at 7 weeks, he read the PT report and ask lots of questions and the released me for full duty he said I was about 1 month ahead of schedule. Everyone heals differently and has different pain thresh holds. I believe you are doing great just go at your on pace. I had a friend that had a single TKR and was out of work for 3 months, you never know how the process is going to effect you until its a done deal.

Best wishes!

I'll be 10 weeks out tomorrow. Am still going to PT twice a week trying to get the legs straight. Have good ROM, but the knees still get tired after walking and being on them for a while. Have to get them up, iced and take a nap. I'm going back to work(light duty) Mar 2. I think you're expecting too much for 9 weeks out, but sounds like it's coming along fine. good luck..
