For the people who don't know, (Probably not to many:P) I am the 20 year old who had a total left hip replacement.

I am writing this and feeling the best i have ever felt for the past 5 years.

I no longer have any limp or pain whatsoever. I have started major strength training on my leg and also have started PLAYING basketball again. I am also able to run, slightly. All this is done without pain, and i am on No medication (I stopped taking all medication 1 week after my surgery). I am still not working, but i will be going back to work in about 1-2 months time. My hip is already allowed and able to flex over 90 Degree's and my physiotheropy is going tremendous, ALOT better than expected.

All in all, i am almost feeling fully recovered, and my expectations of recovery were very grim, yet i still remained very strong, mentally...And it has paid off.

I am feeling as good as i felt before the problems with my hip happened 5 years ago...And it is good to know that a surgery, that seems so scary for Anyone at any age has changed my life, words can not describe the feeling i feel.

I had a great life and expectations before the infection took over my body, and the 5 years in the black.....Now i am on the green side of life again, and all i can do is look back at what happened and laugh...Since for some reason the omen put upon myself for the mysterious reason i got sick has been finnally beaten, and i will not ever feel a better victory.

Kudos to you YoungGuy. Isn't it just amazing where you have come from to now and pain is just a nighmare of the past. I can hardly wait to get my other hip done so I can feel fully what you do. I know my new hip makes my leg feel wonderful and no pain and I just keep thinking That object is in there and it doesn't hurt. Good luck to you buddy.

This sounds like you have a live changing experience with the new hip. Any advice for someone going through this in about a month?

Be strong in mind, i have had 4 surgeries on my hip in my young life. The mental part of recovery and preperation for surgery is what will dramatically secure a outcome that you, and your family will be happy about. The physical part of recoverying is enourmous, but if you are strong in mind, and your willpower is over the top the physicality will be a cakewalk. Not saying the recovery is anything simple, it is hard..In the beginning, everyday after the first couple weeks you will feel a improvement. Around the 4-5 week mark, you will notice you are able to do more things than you ever could do earlier. 6-8 weeks you will be thanking god for what you have went through and what the outcome has been. 9+ Weeks, all the regrets or scared thoughts of when you contemplated the hip replacement before you got it will be humourous in your mind.

Get a good physiotheropist, one who has worked with a hip replacement before. Recovery is your number 1 key, you do not want to slight away from it. Hard times are a given after any surgery, but for a hip replacement especially you do not want to put off doing what you are supposed to do for a successful recovery, since it could put a damper, extremely on the years to come with the new hip.

When you are down on yourself after the surgery, feeling like you are feeling pain that no one else has felt after a hip replacement (Since you will) just remember, everyone has felt that excrusiating post surgery pain for a week and over. Be strong, know it will get 300X Better, and never ever think that you did the wrong thing...Since it will end up being the greatest wrong thing someone could ever do :P. (I was told by so many people that me being so young a hip replacement was not a good idea...Like i said about the humourous thing...I just laugh now, since it was the smartest decision i have ever made in my life.)

I hope that helps you, Wendy.
