I am a 55 year old who postponed surgery after hearing many horror stories. I wanted to post my recovery story for anybody that might be on the fence for scheduling surgery. I felt virtually no pain while in the hospital after the surgery. I left after 2 days and walked a 1/2 mile an hour after getting home. Two days later I was up to 2 miles, after 1 week it was 5 miles with no cane.
After 2 weeks I started to work on regaining strength by going to the gym. I estimate that my strength at this time was 15-20% of pre-op. I have done some form of exercise every day since the operation, weights, walk, hike, road bike, exercise bike, and now 8 weeks out I have 100% strength back, no pain or discomfort and reply when asked about my condition, "what hip".
I know that many people will recover this fast but my advice to everybody is "have a positive attitude, set goals and be persistent in your rehab".

Re: September Updates

Hi, Danr....welcome to BoneSmart. Thanks so much for posting such an inspiring story of your recovery. It helps for people to read about others who have been through the surgery and recovery as they wait for their "magic" day. Please feel free to start a thread of your own in the recovery forum and let us know more about your milestones as you reach them.

Dan - I moved your post because it's just too good to be hidden in the middle of another thread. I want people to read this! You're a star! Please keep posting and tell us how you're doing.

hey Dan i am so so happy for you goes to show you have a good Dr listen and you should be ok.......thanks for posting that i think it will help alot of people........) continued good luck to ya..............i think you see the horror stories but the people that have done so well are out doing there thing as they should and thats amazing.......you are doing a great job be proud.............)i hope you ck in and keep us posted.............)

Hey Dan, Right on!!!:thmb:
I'm in total agreement with the positive attitude. I too am recovering on the same pace as you. I'm 3 weeks post op today, and have been walking w/out a cane for the last 3 days. I focus on improvement with every step I take. Along with the exercise, equal rest also.
I'm so glad I had this done. I went into it very optomistic, and have been pleasantly surprised how much better it has actually been.
Keep up the good work!
