I am a 55 year old who postponed surgery after hearing many horror stories. I wanted to post my recovery story for anybody that might be on the fence for scheduling surgery. I felt virtually no pain while in the hospital after the surgery. I left after 2 days and walked a 1/2 mile an hour after getting home. Two days later I was up to 2 miles, after 1 week it was 5 miles with no cane.
After 2 weeks I started to work on regaining strength by going to the gym. I estimate that my strength at this time was 15-20% of pre-op. I have done some form of exercise every day since the operation, weights, walk, hike, road bike, exercise bike, and now 8 weeks out I have 100% strength back, no pain or discomfort and reply when asked about my condition, "what hip".
I know that many people will recover this fast but my advice to everybody is "have a positive attitude, set goals and be persistent in your rehab".
