Definitely mate thanks@Spongebob
1) 'hip ache' is too generalized a question. Do I have ache in the operated hip joint itself? No. I don't have pain in the groin or near my replacement and never have since surgery. If I did I'd consult my OS. My aches and pains on operated side are related to soft tissue near/under scar from rebuilding range, waking up muscles from years of disuse etc..
2) Exercise: Not saying I'm exercising more or my approach is better than others. What I was trying to say is as follows: an exercise program for me, a 54 year old male @ 6 months may not be appropriate for an 80 year old @ 6 months, or for someone who was in a wheel chair pre op and had to use a cane for 2 months post op. On the other hand, there are folks who are doing an exercise program I'm doing now at 3 months and not 6 months. Some people do no exercises, others a ton. What does it all mean? Recovery, like exercise programs, after the first 2-3 months, starts to take us all in unique directions that become more difficult to compare over time. So please don't try to compare!
3) On being pain free; sure, would love to be pain free someday. No idea when that day will happen. I know many folks are pain free at 6 months. But I'm not. Is something wrong with me? Nope. Just my body is doing its thing and finding my way.
My advice? Asking others when you should expect to become pain free, in my humble opinion, is fueling a cycle of uncertainty and anxiety in your life. Honestly mate its not helping you at all! Work the pain problem with your OS, physio, massage therapist and at some point maybe see a pain management specialist who crosses all of these disciplines and can help coordinate a customized program for YOU! In real life! That will get actual results.
I hope, as they say in gymnastics, I stuck the landing....
Don't worry all goodOh geez, I didn’t see all the messages before mine saying to turn the phone landscape.
Lol! Another thing I noticed with the phone is sometimes you don’t see all the new posts that have been added. Even though I tap to refresh when I come to the site, sometimes I add a comment and then I get a notification that says there has been more activity I may not have seen. Phone has its disadvantages, but I rarely use a computer anymore.
Sorry about hijacking your post, SpongeBob.![]()
I am at my close family having a buffet tea really nice off work tmoz as it's bank holiday here and yes trying be positive that 1 day all this will be worth it to be able to do the gym classes and live life to the full etc.. with none or minimal painI love this! Taking a more relaxed approach to recovery looks good on you, SpongeBob!
Even though I can't see you, lol.
Happy Sunday! I hope you're seizing the day! It's still early here, only 9:30 am.
@Spongebob
@Layla but like you say now I'm thinking more positive not only will it make recovery go quicker as I won't be thinking about it and making it get me down it will also be more enjoyable along the way as I get better and better happy Sunday folksI love this! Taking a more relaxed approach to recovery looks good on you, SpongeBob!

Thank you very muchHappy Four Month Anniversary, Spongebob!
I'm loving your new attitude! You're only four months out and you will continue to enjoy progress for many months to come. Slowly, but surely you'll get there. Go easy and take time to smell the roses along the way. You're doing great!
@Spongebob
When you say "pain" do you actually mean pain, or does the word "discomfort" better describe the sensation?pain in my hip
@Layla Discomfort is how I would describe my all day hip ache? Also is it normal to have the worst pain in the morning when I wake is that from being static in bed ?Yes, I think stiffness upon rising from sitting or reclining is normal, then as you start moving around it usually eases. My PT used the phrase "Motion is Lotion"

No what I am saying I have come to terms with it mentally nowI am at a loss on how to advise you further. You once described what you feel as discomfort of 2-3, on a scale of 1-10. All I can say is...that doesn't sound abnormal. With that said, I get the feeling it bothers you mentally, more than it does physically. You need to live with it and hope it continues to improve, which it likely it will.
If it increases in frequency, or intensity, schedule another visit with your surgeon. For now, carry on with life as best you can.
@Spongebob
I am better now than I was before I'm not on pain meds and I mentally and physically feel better now just wanted to ask if stiffness in morning is normal for people that's all and I know the hip ache will fade eventuallyI am sorry, but I can’t give you a definite answer. Minor pain, discomfort, stiffness, swelling can all occur for months post op. Sometimes from over activity, sometimes from being in the same position for too long, sometimes “just because” your body is still healing from the controlled trauma of major surgery. Give this recovery a full year. You’re only four months post op. It will never be perfect, it will never match your natural hip. If you’re better off now than you were before surgery, it’s already a win, right? Or, do you feel you were better off before? You don’t have to answer that, just something to ponder.
Hi @Spongebobjust wanted to ask if stiffness in morning is normal for people that's all and I know the hip ache will fade
All good hereHi @Spongebobjust wanted to ask if stiffness in morning is normal for people that's all and I know the hip ache will fade
Yes, this is normal.
