I had water therapy, which I love, and after that the family decided to go out to dinner. I thought I would sit in the back seat. I couldn't bend my knee enough to get past the center post between the front door and back. I didn't think I strained anything. I gave up and went to the front, but the next day when I woke up, I couldn't put weight on the leg or straighten it out. It feels hot and it kind of red. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, but now I have to go back to the walker which I haven't used in three weeks.
Anyone have this problem? I am hoping to return to work pretty much full time in two weeks. I am really despondant about this, because I have fallen twice with no problems and not I stretch the leg just a little and end up with this?

to me, what you describe doesn't sound like enough of a strain to cause this result unless you really made an effort to bend to get past that post. I think it's good you'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow. In the meantime, ice it and elevate like crazy. Be sure you are taking some type of anti-inflammant pain medication regularly in accordance with the instructions. Baby it and it should feel better tomorrow morning.

Where does it hurt when you try to put weight on your leg?

Oh....and I'll register my concern now about your plans to return to work in another 2 weeks.....that may be way too soon for full-time work.

Lubbock
It sounds like a coincidence that the pain/not being able to put weight on it happened when you tried to go into the back seat.
Glad you have an apt tomorrow. Let us know what happens. I surely do rememeber those 2 steps forward, one backward days, no fun at all.
Feel better

Lubbock,
I am glad to hear that you are going
to see your Doctor tomorrow. I agree
with Jamie ICE & ELEVATE!! I just have
know idea what is causing you so much pain!!
So please rest today.

Hi Lubbock you are 7 weels vey early but i agree with the others talk ed with your os..but i was the same i always had the front.........)
Please let us know what he says..........good luck to you........

Lubbock, I hope your OK and Icing, rest and be positive. I know how you feel
lately, but please relax today and Best of Luck at the Doc's tommorow!

Lubbock, you put this thread in the Social Centre so I moved it into the Knee Recovery forum.

I think Judy's near the mark in it being coincidence although you may have exacerbated whatever the problem is by your attempts to sit in the back seat.

Personally, I think you've just strained the entire operation site and that it will settle down in time.

As others have said - ice and elevate!

Hey, Lubbuck, Seven weeks out from surgery is so early. Sounds like maybe you just did too much or maybe you were already having a problem there and something you did yesterday accelerated the whole thing. Good thing you are seeing the doctor tomorrow. Or today. Hope you let us know what he says and that it is just you need to rest it.

I am always so impressed by people like you who are going back to work so soon after this surgery. I did really well after my surgery, (BTKR May 2008) only went to therapy 3 times and was up and walking without any assistance in less than three weeks but even at that I still tired easily and had to take it easy, which in my life meant I cooked and cleaned and did laundry and took care of the dogs, but could at least do in on my own schedule, if I missed a day or so with something (besides the dogs) no one cared. So I hope you are going to take good care of yourself. We only go around once and you own it to yourself to take good care of you. Anyway, good luck with all, Jan(Rowdy)

Good luck with the doctor and it does sound like some kind of "overdoing". Which we all do over and over as we recover. You may have swelling around the knee again and hat would make it red and keep it from bending and straightening properly.... Anyhow the doc will tell you so just be sure you tell him everything you did leading up to the problems.
We're all rooting for you!!!
Stephani

Thanks to all who responded to my last post. The redness and heat turned out to be a staph infection. Not the MRSA thank goodness, but when I went to the doctor the next day, he slapped me back into the hospital. I layed around for two days until they got my bloodthinner under control so I could have a second surgery on the 21st of October. I got out of the hospital on the 26th complete with a P.I.C.C. line surgically implanted in my right upper arm where I receive IV antibiotics every six hours which will go on for another 5 weeks. I have a cast on my leg which keeps it straight which I know will make revisiting PT pretty much agony. I still have some stitches from the last doctor's appt which seems to occur every Monday. I am wondering if I will ever be glad I decided to ever get a total knee replacement!!

That's too bad! I'm so sorry it's an infection. Be sure to eat well, take vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals. Hope you get over it fast.

Oh, my....Lubbock....I'm so sorry to hear you have an infection! It certainly is a good thing that you went to the doc quickly to have things checked out. It does sound like your medical team is on top of it and that things will improve for you. You are probably right, though, that you'll be working hard once you get back in therapy.

Good luck and please continue to let us know how you're getting along.

Ohhh Dang, Dang, and double Dang,
I am so sorry Lub!!!!! I truly Hope that you are now on the road to recovery!!! I will be send up some prayers that you get past all of this and you decide that the TKR was a good thing.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I had a friend who kept telling me I should have my surgery at UMC instead of Covenant. She kept giving me horror stories of staph infections coming out of Covenant. I went ahead with original plans and had the surgery at Covenant Lakeside. You just never can tell. I was 4 weeks out from surgery Wednesday. So far everything has gone text book perfect with my legs. It even corrected my pigeon toedness - LOL. I am going to Physical Therapy Today on the Loop. I think they have been great. Hate the underwater treadmill but that is due to some back issues. Water is great for the knees.

If I can be of any help to you just contact me.

So sorry to hear about your staph infection, Lubbock. Been there, done that and it's no fun at the time, but it does eventually get better. Are you having to keep your leg straight because you've had the knee joint removed or just because of the infection? Do hope your recovery goes smoothly Linda x
