THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

Hugs :friends: and lots of love :loveshwr:
It's all going to be okay.
We're here for you and we care!
@Bevlah

Looking at the xray the hip looks fixed
I don't think it looks fixed at all. A perfectly normal THR in fact.
was told that they would build a cup for my new hip out of some of my hip bone. They were concerned about my leg length so built the "cup???" I use that term loosely as it doesn't really resemble what I thought it would be, in the empty space in my pelvis. This looks like a blob just above the ball joint.
By blob, do you mean this that I've arrowed?

bevlah.jpg

That's just bone cement that's extruded through the break into your pelvis. It often happens in cases like this and is nothing to worry about. It really shouldn't have any impact on your mobility.
it wasn't even the oa that I saw at my appt. I think I saw the flipping cleaner
Did you mean your OS? Your surgeon? Now you know that the only people allowed to review post-op patients are either the consultant, the registrar or the clinical specialist nurse, also called the orthopaedic assistant who may be referred to as an OA! But they are very highly trained nurses, just as I am!

I'd really like to offer you some structured advice but in order to do that, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?

@Josephine hi Josie thank you for your reassurance! I was a bit disrespectful with my comment about the cleaner, I am sure he was qualified he just didn't seem to know what had happened. Yes I did mean OS. So you think my mobility will be ok then? It's just that I am in the same position mobility wise as I was before. Will or improve with muscle stretching? So many questions!!

Hey Bev, Hope you're having a good day...
While Jo is elsewhere helping someone else,
I'm not sure if you noticed she'd like to ask you some questions...if you're willing?
If you would kindly respond to that before Jo gets back here....she'll be able to roll.
@Bevlah

@Bevlah - I've not seen my post op x-ray and for that matter, anyone else's until yours... but of the diagrams I've seen... your "cup" looks very "cup-like" to me (at least like the drawings I've seen). I would think the additional circumstances might delay your complete healing... At 2.5 weeks, I have no idea what ROM I have (or will have). I can barely remember what I 'did have' before the surgery. For some reason, I'm comforted when the experts on the forum say "2 mo. is early" or 'there's still a lot of healing to occur'. I'm sorry for your blues... and the work situation. Ya kind of feel kicked when you're down. Hope you have a good 'remainder of the weekend!'

Well, first things first. I'd really like to offer you some structured advice but in order to do that, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?

@Josephine yes of course Josie!

@NanaMama yes of course I am hugely comforted by the words of everyone on here,!! I think the whole process has just got to me and turned me into a blithering wobbly mess with so many doubts and questions!! Thank goodness for this website and my new virtual friends I really don't know how I would have got through

@Layla sorry I have replied to Josie now

Here y'go then!

It would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't forget to factor in other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness).

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. are you icing your painful area at all? If so, how often and for how long?

5. are you elevating your leg. If so how often and for how long?

6. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

7. are you doing any exercises at home? If so what and how often?
This is the most crucial question so please help me by using the format I have left as an example
(which means please make a list and not an essay!)

Exercises done at home
- how many sessions you do each day
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Anything done at PT
- how many times a week
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Hi @Bevlah, sorry you're having such a torrid time. I'm sending you healing thoughts, prayers and wishes.
Hoping Josephine is able to give you some reassurance using her expertise. Wishing you a week of positivity and progress.

Josephine has advice for us all. I read pretty much everything she says because I can learn from the questions of others. Frequently I learn the hard way. :headbang:

@Josephine hi sorry for late reply!
1. Lateral

2. No pain until I get up or sit down then I get pain across my thighs. I also have back ache that worsens if I am stood too long.

3. Not on any pain meds now

4. Will ice my swollen scar at the end of the day for half an hour

5. I put both legs up at the end of the day

6. Back at work full time. Do light housework, shopping and cooking.

7. Didn't really do PT from your advice but as I have absolutely no ROM have started! At work I get up every hour and do some stretches. Leg raise to side, lift leg forwards and back, balance on op leg. Back against a wall and slide down. I don't count how many I do I am afraid!

My worry now is my scar. The top half healing great. The bottom half still very swollen, warm, completely numb, red and sore to touch. I am nearly 10 weeks post op so is this normal.

Thanks for your advice as always is very much appreciated!!!!

When do you go back to OS..
Perhaps you should let them look at that incision?
I hope you are not letting the post-op blues get at you.
I had a spell about two months out...just emotionally kind of wrecked!
Can you get current pic of area of concern to Josephine?

@Mojo333 am feeling great at the moment to be honest! Walking more and finally can do the stairs with both legs!!! The scar I have attached can you please have a butchers @Josephine ?

Josephine, sorry file attached now! The photo makes it look ok but it's really sore to touch at the bottom and still swollen and completely numb? Thanks

All answers okay.

Well to be expected at only 10 weeks out. What kind of work do you do? How many hours a day, how many days a week? That might have some bearing.

@Josephine hi thanks for your reply. I work 8 to 5.30, 5 days a week in an office. I do get up every hour and do PT excercises

Hi @Bevlah
Just trying to catch up on some posts so so sorry you are having these issues. Really hope things take a turn for you soon I am sure you will get there before too long . Stay strong :console2:
