Thank God I found this forum! I had TKR at the Mayo Clinic 6 weeks ago and have had lots of questions. I live 3 hours away from the Dr. so I am kind of on my own. After reading some of the questions and answers from you guys I feel so much better. I am having trouble sleeping. Feels like the insicion is on fire after the sheets start rubbing on it. I am a stomach sleeper so that doesn't help. Also I am my own PT. The Dr gave me a list of manuevers to do and said see you in 2 months. So I do not know if I am progressing ok or not. I am walking pretty good, no walker or cane, driving, doing stairs (one step at a time). My flexion is about 95. The leg isnt entirely straight still have some swelling. Again this forum has been a godsend for me. I can see where others are at different post op stages.
I will have more questions later I am sure.

Sounds like you are doing just fine. You are at the same stage as myself only I have about 110 flex. All my PT is at home, mainly isometric exercises to strengthen the quads and on the exercise bike for about 3 sessions a day for a total of 30 minutes. My sleep improved at the 5 week mark but I still take 2 panadeine forte tabs in the evening which gets me through most of the night. God luck, you are on track and it will get better and better as time moves on.

Hi Sue, welcome. Sensitive incision is normal and gets better. Try something called Aquaphor cream by Eucirin. Rub on a few times a day. keeps it soft and you touching it helps desensitize it. Swelling can last up to a year, so don't worry about it. Are there any Therapists near you you can go to? Sounds like you are doing good.

Sue Z,
Glad you found us. I am now 5.5 months post op. I only went to "official" P.T. for two weeks. The last time I was measured by my O.S. I had full extension and 130 flex.
After my two weeks I went to my gym and worked out 6-7 days per week. Mostly stationary bike and walking. In between, lots of stretching.
You can do it. It hurts but you have to just grit the teeth and get it done.
Best of luck with it.

Sue! Welcome to the forum! We're so glad you found us too. We'll do our very best to support and encourage you. Not much we haven't covered here, eh, Doug?

BTW can't believe you're 5½ months! WHERE does the time go?
