I saw my OS last Friday to get the 6-week checkup and x-rays, only it was just past 5 weeks. Due to the holiday they saw me a bit early.

He didn't lift all restrictions. Wants me to not ride the bicycle outside, play golf, go beyond 90 degrees, and other similar activities until 12 weeks. He did say I could slowly start working on the range of motion but he didn't want me testing it very much until 12 weeks. Otherwise, I'm free to do anything I want while using pain as a guidance. No more cane, which I haven't used much anyway.

I'm actually breaking the rules just a bit, because I can tie my shoes now but just barely. I stretch as much as possible with my arms and upper back trying to keep as close to 90 degrees as possible. Funny thing is, how I'm tying my shoes now is all I could do pre-op, so I know it's only going to get better.

I tried to be a really good patient and follow the rules to the letter, but that's difficult for me with this kind of stuff. I figure if you use common sense and let your body guide you things will be okay.

Here is my x-ray.

Thats true Scott, but becareful. They put those rules in place for a reason. Dont go backwards. I would read your threads and you sounded like you were doing great to me. Just hang in there dont go to fast. Time will hopefully pass fast. I imagine you want to do more but it will come in time, then all your restrictions will be released. Not trying to being a mother, just care...........

Really nice pic, Scott. As Kim said....just be careful when you push it a little...

Totally agree with both of you, Kim and Jamie. I definitely don't want to go backwards. I'm being very cautious, even when walking. Just trying to stimulate healing :D

I agree, Scott- do as you are told! My last OS visit I had to wait 2.5 hrs to see him and when he did come in and the removed staples and then he took that huge NEEDLE and piked around trying to get fluid out I just wanted to leave..as fast as I could! I can drive this week, as of today and can go back to work in sitting position but didn't ask anything else other than "when can I ditch these fancy stockings?!" I ask PT stuff but she is hush hush..says I am doing great and to ask dr re: restrictions. May I ask why there is a screw in you? Is that old? Pelvis injury from fall? and how did you get pic of your xray? I think I will take pictures with my cell next visit..at 8 weeks po. Just do as you are told..I would love to bike ride outside but think I will need cushier seat...you are doing GREAT!!

That looks so painfull. Do you feel any of that ?

The only pain I feel is the ITB and gluteus muscles when I do lying abductor exercises. I occasionally get some pain in the hip flexor area, but that has been rare in infrequent.

I have tried to actually feel the implant but haven't quite figured it out yet. :sct:

Holy cow :shk: That needle poking around sounds horrible!

That screw is new, although I had much larger ones from my previous fracture. I asked about the screw as well and he told me that's just something he does with some patients to help the cup set and stabilize. I thought it was odd compared to all the pictures I've seen on here, but I trust him.

I asked for a copy of the x-ray and they gave me a CD with the images on it. Very cool! On the x-ray my GP took a few months ago, I just snapped a pic with my cell phone. Works just about as good.

Tooyoungforthis was trying to get her pictures from the cd to hear. I don think it ever worked. Looks neat though, amazing the stuff that can be done now, just amazing.

It was horrible- the needle thing..He was squeezing it and jabbing it like I was having lipo! I didn't look at all until he was finished. I did watch my husband's face though and he was white as a ghost! AND- he only got a tiny amount of fluid. It was just swollen. My suggestion: Ice before OS visit! Though I had just had pt and then sat in his office for 2 hrs so...

Wow, Julie....I've not heard any stories before of a doctor poking around like that. It sounds brutal! Hope you don't have to go through THAT again!!! It certainly proves how tough you are!!

Hi Scott
Glad to hear all is going well for you - I am also at 5 weeks and it is very tempting to try new things, I know!:pnc::D
Have also had a feel tound for my implant, but there still seems to be a little swelling in the area so it is a little dificult to tell what is what!:pzld:

Interesting X-ray pic, I must say.
It actually looks very similar to mine, except mine has an extra screw which at first glance looks a little longer that yours (not bragging here - lol :D:D just an observation!).
My OS said he was planning to use some bone taken from the removed femoral head to put behind the cup, as my acetabulum had worn right though into the pelvic bone :euw:
I will ask him exactly what he did when I see him again in early June. I will also ask him what make and model of go faster hip I now possess.

Also I hope to get my x ray pics (cell phone job!) posted soon.

Take care of yourself and I hope you continue to have good progess

Regards
Andy

Yikes! Other than for an aspiration, I've never heard of an os probing around with a needle like that,,, But he must have really had a POINT! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!).....hope you're feeling better today!! :)!

Hi Scott
At about a little over 4 weeks is when I got in trouble. Felt great, did too much, felt really , really bad.
Be cautious you guys, the 12 weeks will be here before you know it. Sounds like eveyone is doing great.
Julie stay away from long needles, ouch. I had a few steroid injections before hiip replacement. They were no fun. Also had the radiologist poke around trying to get the right spot for the MRI . He put in too much fluid, so I had to go back the next day. I know how you felt.
Lets just say when the left hip goes, I'll skip all that and just have it replaced!!!
judy

That is a very nicely placed hip, Scott. :thmb: And uncemented, I see.

Julie, you poor lass! How horried for you. And all for practically nothing. :cnsl:

Wow! Very interested in hearing exactly what the OS did. That's fascinating.

You and Julie get the awards for freaky hip stories today :shk:

I have a screw in mine that looks just like yours, Scott! And I actually can feel my implant - in fact, I've had other people put their hand on it and feel it as I bring my leg up bending the hip! Pretty cool! (Or I think so, anyway, not everybody who feels it thinks so, tho, kinda freaks them out!) :)

You can feel it, Karen? I would never even now mine is there if I didn't see the scar! :)
