Well today i reached another reminder that my surgery is getting nearer.I start an iron supplement regimen.Surgery is 6 weeks away now.... and counting. Not too sure why the iron, but i am sure its for a good reason.

I remember doing the countdown...It will be here before you know it!

I didn't do iron pre-op just post op but those pills did wreak havoc on my digestive system (read...constipation) so you may need a side of stool softeners to go with those :)

Bless you in this waiting time,
Sheri

Ca va ? Six semaines pour la chirurgie a la hanche (prothese de hanche mini-invasive?), felicitations ! As to the iron, you could lose some blood during the operation. I’d start preventing the potential constipation with increased water intake, because it is a natural remedy unlike stool softeners and it works!

I had some super duper iron for i think it was about a week before surgery. Good thing too as i needed my banked blood as well.
Hope the coutdown goes fast for you and no interruptions as Ronnie and i have had

Today i got a call from the hospital where the surgery is going to take place. apparently its time to get my blood work and stuff done by my GP, then a date for the preop meeting will be given,, all done by video conferencing...via our telehealth system...paid billions for it, will get a chance to see how it works...another step closer...slow death.. heheh.

Or you could think of it as being "one step closer"! Good luck today with all the pre-op testing etc. I've never heard of all that being done by video conferencing - sounds interesting! Have a good day! :thmb:

Hi! I should have taken iron supplements before the surgery as I had become incredibly weak and malnourished during the last 3 months before my procedure. My doc prescribed iron tabs for me to take twice per day, which began when I was in the hospital for the surgery. Drink LOTS of water, like TeeJay said. Also, how cool that you are going for your initial pre-op visits! It means your date is real and is getting closer and closer. Start thinking now about all the things you've been wanting to do once you are not in pain anymore and start your own "Bucket List" of sorts. You are only weeks away from the miracle that will give you your life back!

Well I just set up the pre- op meeting with the anesthesiologist in Toronto via video conferencing at the local hospital on the 23rd of December. This will be interesting, interactive TV.. heheh.. least it will be one on one I suppose.Gives me some time to think of what concerns me( at this time i just want his re-assurance i will be totally unaware of anything).

Sounds like you are about where I am...My blood donation is in a week and a half.

I started taking some kids vitamins to get extra iron 'cause all the 'adult' stuff destroys my stomach.

Good luck w/ everything!

Well had the pre-op with the pharmacologist, a ortho nurse, and the anethesioligist, answered 120 questions from the nurse, about the same from the pharmacologist, and listened to the anethesioligist, was told they supply ipods for my listening enjoyment during the surgery in case i am aware enuf to hear, guarantees me i wont feel a thing or probably remember anything, its a spinal plus a block..was told i will get lots of drugs for pain and to KEEP AHEAD OF THE PAIN.. hmm heard that tune somewhere before.. heheh..bows to all those who have gone before me...will have to self inject coudamin for 17 days i believe...and to use stool softners as required or eat lottsa fiber...was a lot like a review...I really appreciate this site the closer i get to my surgery... anyway Merry Christmas all.. and heres to the NEW YEAR.. whatever it may hold!!!

Sounds like your medical team knows their stuff! You're good to go!!!

Well this coming wednesday is my big day.I changed myavatar to more properly express the image of what i am feeling.I have quite a few loose ends to tie up.. hope to occupy my time til the big day doing them... or maybe just find a really BIG bottle of scotch..Kinda feel like i am waiting to see the principal...does that feeling ever go away..man its been years heheh , well off to do SOMETHING!!!!

Grenouille.....your new froggie is so great!!! If you remember those days sitting outside the principal's office, it was the apprehension and the wait that was many times worse than the actual event...same here. Try to keep busy and ... calm.

Hey Keith,
You are almost there.....stay calm.....calm is good even if it appears unrealistic at this point. Just find some crosswords or sudokus or whatever it is that you like to do when you are laid up, make sure you have your support network geared up and take the last few days to go out to dinner and enjoy some really nice meals.....my experience of hospital food is that its generally appalling!

and then go for it....get your brain in the right place....THR is more about your head than your hips!.....you need patience and perserverance and a level head to keep you focussed on recovery.....a level head can be difficult when you are at least temporarily bombed out on endone.....and you will need the narcotics for at least a while.....
Good luck on Wednesday and sleep well....Incidentally what music do they put on the ipod??? Beethoven or ACDC????

thanks Jamie.. just gonna do my breathing thing when its closin in on me.. and yeah the strap was always such a let down..heheh

Thanks Rachel, I like crosswords and being a child of the 60's its rock n roll and blues so yeah AC/DC.I have my post operation situation in hand, and pain and myself are ole friends, it doesnt skeer me.. and
I have no problem taking enough drugs to keep it out of my hair.

Hi Keith, Don't forget to go out to dinner, go to a movie or whatever else you like to do these next few days. Soon your surgery will be over and you will be on the other side recovering and on your way to less pain. You will be so happy that the anticipation of going through this is over! I know I am.

Well just saying goodbye from the" before "side of hippydom... making the long trek to Toronto tomorrow, weather is co-operating no snow , even along the snow belt areas. Not sure when i will be back online, but i will report in as soon as i am able. Once again thanks so very much to all , this trip was definetly easier because of the information amassed on these threads, and from the experience of Jamie and Josephine, ever ready to soothe and calm us newbies with sensible information.
