Hi,
Well all I can say is 6 weeks has flown bye.
I had my doc apt. on friday. Nothing has moved, that is great. I have not driven yet, but will today. I have been walking about 1/2 mile to a local pool about 3 days per week and attempting to coordinate swimming and breathing. If nothing else I am entertaining all in the area (including the 90 year old lady who can swim circles around me)
In the evening I take my pooch out for about a 2 mile walk. I have built up the mileage slowly.
I have been an obsessive runner for the last 27 years. My OS wants me to give up the sport, I may have kind of promised I will.
I am going to start outside pt this week as I feel muscles are still pretty weak.
Still have pain (also major problems with thoracic spine and neck) so he gave me another prescription for percocet.

I now have a pretty 7 or 8 pain that starts just under my incision and over a little bit running down a few inches. I did discuss this with him, although it was fine on friday!!
I noticed it is pretty bad this am. Painful on stairs, up or down. I was out walking for over an hour last nite with my buddy.
At this stage is it still possible that my hiip area is complaining about doing too much? Of course being an obssive exercisor my whole life, I don't feel like this is too much and I have added to walking slowly. Of course when I first went around my block a few weeks ago, more pain started.

My doc and I discussed the possiblity of nerve entrapment, scar tissue. Does scar tissue get mad at doing too much??
I tend to think it is not nerve as it gets to be a problem with the more walking I do. Of course I could be way off on that one!
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks
Judy

Hey Miss Judy,
I think everything you are feeling is normal. Remember all the other issues you have besides your hip.
At 5 months, I am still struggling to get my strength back. And, one day good and then because of my scoliosis and arthritic right hip one step back. Just get into the PT program and stick with it and you will see lots of difference.
My problem for the last couple of days has been pain in my thigh. Been using the ARNICARE gel and that has helped tremendously. The more I exercise the new hip the better but when I do not for a few days it does show.
As a friend said to me the other day, "Patty, it took you five years to barely walk and not knowing it was your hip. It will take lots of time to get back to the old you." I finally see that light even though it is hard...Patience and time is the answer...Talk to you soon New Hippie.....Patty

Hey Judy, I think you just scared Benton off.Lol If you poke it and it hurts...Don't poke it!!! If you walk a lot and it hurts unusually so then shorten the walk.
I still don't have the stamina to stand long periods but I am mostly in the chair due to pain in left hip getting up there like it used to be. It gets annoying because I was thinking if there is anything wrog with my new right hip I probably won't know it till I am walking a distance when I get the other hip. Aghhhhhhh
I notice that when I do push on my scar area it is sore inside so I stopped pushing lol. I hope you get to drive then maybe you won't walk so much right now. Listen by Christmas you and Benton West Texas and a few others are going to be fine. I just love not having the pain I used to have AMEN!

Bentonsmimi

I am still here for you. Just having one of those kind of down days. I had an apt with my spine surgeon today so I am sure that added to it all. As Patty said, I have lots of other issues. My doc reminded me of that today also!!!

Hey when I went swimming today , I swam 1/2 mile. Maybe more I lost track of laps twice and always chose the lower number.
And I start outside pt tomorrow. I am looking forward to the cardio and strength training exercise.
I may have to move in the place as my spine surgeon is sending me also for neck and thoracic spine!!
Of course the hip is the great part of it all as it is fixed. The muscles just have to be a little more cooperative.

Bentonsmimi,
I have an endocrinology condition that causes muscle weakness so you will not be dealing with that at all!!!
Judy

hey judy,
that sounds like a positive 6week. god only knows why you're getting pain though ,hopefully it's from " a little too much effort"

keep up you strength
people out here need it

only time will tell,...

sunshine,

I hope I got bentonsmimi back!!
Sorry about your left hip. My left is ok, it is my spine that has taken over as the arthritis pain generator in my body.
After walking a lot I noticed this morning that the kind of pinching , burning pain is there going up or down stairs. I of course did the same walking today so I will see what happens tomorrow.
Then off to pt which is now for hip, thoracic spine and cervical spine.
They are going to love me.
when is your next hip happening?
Judy
