Its been six days since my left THR (non-adhesive). Overall, my problems seem small compared to other problems e.g., clotting, bleeding, etc. But after 6 days, I am still not able to bear full weight without experiencing pain. The pain is sharp when I put full weight on the joint. Because this pain has gradually increased since surgery, I am thinking that the implant has come loose inside the femur. For a non-adhesive implant, do I just need to give it some time for the bone to grow? 12 weeks? It is certainly not dislocated by the way.

Then you MUST call your OS's office and have yourself examined for your own sanity and peace of mind!! I don't really think any of us could give you any other advice at this point! Good luck and please let us know what is going on with you! Good luck!!! (:)0)

I'm thinking I sure did not bare full weight at 6 days. I was using crutches, then a cane. More like 6 weeks to not needing any aids. I did not have pain when not bearing weight unless trying to move the 1,000pound leg off the bed or back on the bed.
I'd surely call the doc for your sanity, but doubt you dislocated it, it is supposed to be very painful.
Welocme and know that a hip replacemet is awesome. The first 2 weeks are the most challenging. At 3 months I was back to doing everything again. NOt feeling totally normal yet, but acting it!!!

This bone pain is not uncommon especially with an uncemented prosthesis. Didn't you OS have you non-weight bearing for a few weeks? But I agree with the others. Ring and get some reassurance from the surgeon.

at 6 days i was only allow to bear 25% wt. with a walker and still in hospital use walker for 8 weeks and have to still use a cane at 3 1/2 months till my 4 month appt. sept 10 see then if allow to not use a cane and i do still have alittle of the old pain and then still have the new pain still it is better then before

there really is such a wide range of experiences i wonder why??? im 4 weeks and off all walking aides and looking to play golf next week.Really puzzles me can it be tied to the surgeons???

Principally it's because no two people are the same, neither surgeon nor patient. And no two operations are the same either. viv la differance!

it has been 12 days for me and I am not able to walk yet without my walker. I feel like I am making progress, but then feel beat up when I hear stories about 1 week recoveries. I really think it must be different for everyone. I get my staples out on wednesday and have lots of questions for the dr.

Hi, I've been reading the the variaty of experiances, amazing how different it is for everyone. Today is 5weeks since TRHR for me. Mine is also uncemented and I was told no weight bearing for at least 6weeks to allow for bone growth. I get around well on crutches (use walker at night as can't be sure where there might be a stray toy ready for attach,ha). Still find restrictions fustrating and don't sleep through the night yet. Bad days seem fewer and further apart so I know it's getting better. Wishing you a quick and safe recovery.

thats a perfect example you were uncemented and told not to bear full weight.I was uncemented and told to put full weight on from day 1.There really is a vast difference of approaches from surgeons out there its interesting

My sister (not Janis) had an uncemented THR done 10 weeks ago and was told to fully weight bear from the get go!

Thanks for the replies from everyone. Its now day 12 and the pain has grown worse. I've started a new thread today hoping to hear more stories from uncemented THRs.

LOL 6 Days!?!?! I am on 6 weeks touchdown wieght bearing. That means I can put my foot on the floor, but not put and weight at all on my new hippy leg. See things could be worse.

Hey Though its different for everyone the chance of dislocation is more in first 6 weeks as everyone knows. So better be careful for first 6 weeks why talking chances my dear friends??

And u talk about bearing weight on ur leg, i have seen many people using some sort of aid for atleast 6 weeks.

Im sorry you know Im a knee but of you nervous call your OS see what he says.............Use your walker cane, crutches you need to be careful...............Best wishes.......)

Hi everyone, I am the wife of the original post. He is back in the hospital. The surgeon is trying to avoid him for some reason. He ordered another xray which shows nothing. His blood work came back normal. We think it is a damaged or inflamed nerve. I can't always be there when the doc makes his rounds as we are raising our two grand kids, but I told my husband he needs to corner that doc today when he pokes his head in the door. He needs to demand 10 minutes of time to discuss his concerns.

Hi Wife of Phenry,
Read your thread and what a shocker!! You folks already have your hands full with the grandkids, you certainly don't need anymore headaches.
You are right, make sure hubby gets a hold of doc and gets some real answers. There is no point in dodging the issue as it is not going to go away, and may only get worse the longer it is ignored.
We are all here for you, and it won't be long till you get a bunch more replies. Do keep us posted on how things are going.

One thing you can do is, when you are at the hospital, you can ask the nurse to contact the doctor for you. They always have a call number they can use in case they had to contact his doctor in an emergency. Tell the head nurse on the floor you need to speak with the doctor as soon as she can get him on the phone.

Wonderful wife and Grandma,
I am assuming the surgeon put him in the hospital? Why would he avoid him and leave him there?
I actually grabbed my surgeon's clothing when in the hospital so he would not run off before I talked to him enough
My prayers are with both of you to get this figured out soon
