Hi all... it's been 5 days since my TKR. Today, I walked down 8 stairs and took a walk outside, holding onto my husband's arm. Because I didn't have any make-up on, of course some of my neighbors were also outside. It was so good to be outside but was I ever tired afterwards!

Because my iron level was lower after surgery, I'm eating foods high in iron... and trying to eat a veggie or fruit with each meal... but it's hard, my appetite isn't all that good right now.

Thankfully, I'm sleeping very well at night. I change positions often and take a pain pill when needed but I go right back to sleep.

Pain meds are my biggest problem: I've tried different meds... 1/2 a vicodin 5/500, made me very loopy but controlled my pain. 1/2 a tylenol/codeine #3, gave me a headache but also controlled my pain. I'm now trying Ultram 50 mg, which makes me feel okay but I have a bit more pain. Maybe some of you have a different pain med to suggest.

All in all, I feel blessed that I'm doing so well and give all the credit to my OS and his MIS technique. (The stool softners have been a big help, too!) Sandy

You are doing great.

If you are like most of us, you will be extremely tired for quite a few weeks.

I, too, hate the vicodin loopiness, but I just decided to be loopy for 6 weeks or so rather than in pain...

The lack of appetite is pretty typical too.

And--sleeping well at night--now, that makes many of us jealous!

Sandy,
I'd have to agree about the loopiness. It did seem worth it to be loopy if it meant less pain. After all, I'm already a little goofy, might as well be loopy along with it!

It's so great to hear how well you are doing. Keep it up, and PLEASE keep us posted!

Hess

Sandy,
I am so happy you are progressing so well. Keep up the good work and rest. I remember the little walk outside wiping me out!!
