I am still so stiff & sore after manipulation and on strong pain meds...What exercises seem to help you guys ? I want to go on a trip to South American on Dec 2th-Dec 23th...Do you think I can sit that long on an airplane ?
Thanks, Kris

Hi Kris. I had a TKR and a MAU 4 weeks after. The MAU did work for me. I had a few surgeries on that knee and that scar tissue was unreal... So I actually would bend at 68 then went down to 38 at time of MAU. Yes I was sore, really for me it was my thighs..ugh.......Finally I built it back up after the MAU and Im 126 but that did take awhile. With you being 5 weeks out. You still have a ways to go. I am 4 mths out now. Its going good. Still get stiff when I get up but lil moving around makes it go away. I think your still in rehab. How are you doing. Are you bending ok. When was your surgery. I will ck back but good luck to you. Post anytime. We have all been thru it..:) Oh PS, lunges worked for me :( I know hang in there at about 6 weeks I hope you see a difference in the way you feel.

Have you tried the pool yet??? Water walking, frontwards then backwards, sideways and marching in the pool. Lunges and leg lifts all ways in chest deep water. Use the pool ladder to do step up and touches with the opposite foot. Also sit on the steps (if they have them) and put you foot as far back and drop hip by slidding outward. All of these have helped me.

At 5 weeks soreness is pretty par, I think. Still recooping from surgical pain. It does get better with time. Then you will be struggling with setting limits on what is enough or too much! They tell me given time, your knee becomes less the focus and life continues. Still working towards that goal. It took about 2 weeks after my MUA for the swelling to subside enough to work on improving my ROM. Still struggle with overdoing it though.

Hope it goes well for you and you are able to take your trip.

Blessings,

Kris, welcome to BoneSmart. You posted in the Social Room so I moved your thread into the After Knee Surgery forum.

How long is the plane ride? I rode in a car for 12 hours and no problem around 3 months out from TKR. You can always get up and walk around the plane.

You should be able to sit for several hours at your stage out. I would be checking with the OS if you can't. Your knee might get stiff, but you can as I said move around on the plane.

I can't imagine anyone not being able to to sit for several hours after 3 months or so out. Something is wrong I think. Esp. if they can do other things without a problem.
