Went to the doctor for first post-op visit. Coincidentally it was the first day I was allowed to take anything other than Tylenol or the Hydrocodone (I have not taken Hydrocodone since week 2). I took a couple of Aleve before the trip (2 hour drive). The Aleve REALLY helped the soreness/stiffness in my knee.

The doctor said the x-rays looked good. Gave me 2 weeks of Celebrex samples. He cleared me to drive manual shift car, cut the grass, and use the weedeater. Yay!

Couple more weeks of hip precautions, otherwise things are looking good.

Was kinda cool to see the x-ray with the new hip.

Rob

That's good news, Rob. I'm delighted for you.

(but ... what's a weedeater?)

Rob,
That sounds like awesoome news. I know what a weedeater is!!! To bad they do not really eat the weeds.

Did you just start the celebrex?
I was taking it in the hospital, but did not have a prescription to go home with. Then again when I was transferred to rehab, they lost all of my docs precriptions.
It is ok as I see him next week and will ask about the celebrex.

I forgot if you mentioned which hip was it?
I had my right done last friday. If the swelling ever calms down I can see how I could get there at 3 weeks, but if I am carrying around the 3 extra gallons......... maybe 3 months!!!

Josephine,

A weedeater is a string trimmer. :)

Judy,

I did just start the Celebrex today. I have 2 weeks worth, we'll see if it helps with the remaining knee soreness/stiffness. If I do not get any better than I am now, I am still 99% better than before the surgery. :)

I had my left hip replaced May 13. Cement less, ceramic femoral head, highly cross linked polyethylene cup.

Hope your swelling eases soon. Have they recommended heat or ice?

Rob

Rob

Delighted to hear about your recovery.

Judy

I had mine done in April. Leg was swollen like a baloon but within a couple of weeks it was back to normal. Dont worry too much.

Take Care

Jaz

Rob,
I had wondered which leg as far as driving, mine is the right.
I have the exact same parts, excuse the repeating, I'll blame it on the pain meds.

Jaz and Rob
As far as the swelling, Josephine has recommended ice. The pt who came to my house today told me to spend a good portion of the next 3 days in bed with it elevated. She said it was too swollen. Probably explains why the incision started bleeding a little on day 5.
I was concerned as to the extra 20+ pounds and the fact that it is both legs thigh to toes!!!

I have an apt with my OS at 2 weeks so unless it gets worse I'm not calling about it.

Actually Monday I have an apt with the anesthesiologist whose research I am participating in and I will ask him about it.
It is wonderful to be home.
It is wonderful to have all this help here

Rob, Wow that is great to be so free again, I had my right THR May 7 and I want to be free to drive. Left my weed eater with my house.
My appt is the 18 so I hope he clears me for driving and then sets appt for left hip to be done.
Get your legs up!

sunshine,

good luck with your appt the 18th, i hope all goes well!
