After a couple months at the beach, walking in the sand a lot and climbing big staircases, my knees have gotten much stronger even without other exercise. They are no longer wobbly when stepping up. Time passing helps too probably.

I've developed swelling in both knees, fingers and ankles which I hate. I don't know what causes this, my rheumatologist says it's not from inflammatory arthritis since there is no heat or redness. The docs don't like me taking water pills since I have low blood pressure already. I know my heart is good. Anybody else have this problem?

My life is almost all back. After second TKR I thought this day would never come.

Hollie,
Are you ankles and hands swollen all the time??? Or only when you are busy or when you eat certian foods??

Hollie,

my fingers and ankles swell when I take anti-inflammatories!!! When I take Aleve, I get swelling especially in my fingers--my broken finger really hurts!!!

when I go off them, I spend a day or two peeing everything out and then I am okay until I take them again.

Glad to hear you are doing well--you are a month ahead of me!! Kelly

Everything is more swollen in the evening, but there is some swelling all the time.

My swelling is not huge, no cankles on my ankles, just swelling on the protruding bones.

I'm not taking anything including anti-inflammatories.

I have an appointment with OS in September but I haven't found an OS yet who knows what this is about, rheummies and primary don't know either.

Maybe I need to drink a lot more water, we'll see. I haven't found any foods that make it better or worse.

What a bummer. I'm OK otherwise.

Hollie,
My knees don't swell as much as my ankles do but then it's still just a little swelling...not much. But the fingers? I haven't seen any post about the fingers swelling. Keep icing the knees and ankles but I don't know what to tell you about the fingers. I know in another thread they said the swelling can last for a long time and before long you just don't notice it and then one day you wake up and it's gone. Hopefully you will get the right answers soon! Read the thread titled "how long does the swelling last?"

Hollie You need to go to a cardiologist so he can check out the swelling. Sounds like you might need a water pill.

My ankles have swollen ever since I had a scope a few years ago.
They really swell if I sit to long are (and I am bad about this) eat
too much salty foods.

I just elevate and ice and they go down. Oh and my fingers swell, but not much.

I know this isn't a typical recovery problem, it must have something to do with inflammatory arthritis, although my rheumatologist says no but eat less salt. Actually my fingers are the worst problem since I've gained about a ring size or two and don't know whether to have all my rings resized or if it will be corrected.

I've just had my first and only cardiology appointment, he said I was absolutely fine.

All I can do at this stage is drink more water, I am bad about drinking water, and stay away from salt (but I love salt).

It's not real bad, nobody but me would notice. But my knees are bigger than they were before they went bad and I want my knees looking good again and I want to wear my rings (husband having a fit about my wedding rings).

Hollie,
Wear your wedding rings on a chain close to your heart until the swelling goes down on your fingers. Hubby should be happy with that:wub:. I have troubles drinking water too. Do you like flavored water? That helps me. They have so many options now with water.

Good luck and keep us informed on how you are doing.
