Hi,

It's been about 4 months since my surgery. I was doing very well, but this past week I have developed pain in my groin and thigh. I did the elipitical last week for about 25 minutes -and was going at a rather fast speed -could this have caused it?

My pain starts in my groin area and goes in my inner thigh, front thigh, to my knee. When I put all my weight on the the operated leg, it hurts.

Do you think I should just give it some time to resolve it self?

Melissa (Miss you guys!)

Melissa, Melissa, my dear girl! What are you doing to yourself! Back off the eliptical and let things calm down. Might take a while and maybe some anti-inflams would help. And next time try cutting down on the rpms!

Hope it gets better soon and great to hear from you! God bless.

Jo said it. Sounds like you just did a little more than your body was expecting. I've been doing a lot of exercising and some days I have soreness and some I don't. Having gone through a broken hip in the past and now this, I will say that if you hurt the hip, you'll know it.

I was just thinking about you yesterday. Sorry you have caused a flare up. I remember my pt telling me to give it a good 8 or 9 months for things to settle down., Seems like a long time, but just think of what is in there!!!! I know at 4 months I was still taking pain meds. I'm glad Jo responded to say it is normal and you just overdid exercise.
I just took 2 days off from hiking and last nite when I went my knee felt normal for about half the hike. I have a difficult time taking any days off. That surgery was in Dec and was not a replacement!!:hehe:

Our bodies just need some rest. I would call my doc's office and get some anti inflammatories and rest for a while.
Nice to hear f rom you.

Hi Melissa!!!! So nice to hear from you!!! Hope you just take it a little easier, Bionic Girl! I know the eliptical is supposed to be "low impact".....don't kid yourself! Pop in when you can so we know how life is treating you! Hugs to Emma!!! :)

I third it, Just try to take it a lil easier for awhile, then you can go back to being that girl we saw bending everywhere in those pics.I could no way do that...lol...Good luck, hope you feel better..

I guess certain days we feel like the bionic-woman/man.why not, with that new part. Sunday I walked a mile and this morn only have alittle pain in thigh and but. So I guess I'll scale back abit.the mile was way too much. Hope you feel better soon.

A ha! Gloria!!! YOU too, must take it easy!!! Muscles have memory! But still.....they AREN'T that brilliant!!! :)

Thanks everyone for the advice and well wishes. Yes, Jo, I will calm it down. I hope I feel better soon. Taking Advil for the pain.

Judles -Emma says hi back to you :)

I am off from work today -took my mom to have cataract surgery. Impressive -the surgery is only about 10 minutes! (1 hour with the pre an post op) but the actual surgery is so short.

Judy -thanks for thinking of me :)

Yes -I hope to get back to my stretches again soon!

M-

I agree with above sentiments. I get pains from time to time around the joint. Does it hurt worse when you bear weight? When you stand evenly on both feet or just trying to stand on the operated foot? Better during exercise?

There are a myriad of things that could be bugging you, most of which are NOT implant failure. Nerve inflammation, muscle inflammation, tendon inflammation, lengthening of muscles, evolution/stretching of scar tissue, etc, etc.

Settle down, rest and I'll bet you'll be back to tree and downward dog (?) in no time!

Although it's great to hear from you, Melissa, I'm sorry to hear you're hurting. You'll be fine soon, though. Just take the advice of your friends above and the pain should go away.

Melissa--Nice to hear from you. Not to glom on, but I am about 1 month behind you. A couple of weeks ago, I had a similar problem, caused, I think by working too much and taking time off from PT and working out (due to work) I would be walking along and just get a strong pain in my right hip joint. It nearly caused me to go back to my cane. Once I started PT again and stretching, thankfully, th epain went away and has not returned. I hoe you have a similar short-term problem.

Hey Melissa!! Good to hear from you!:D I was getting back into doing the stairstepper awhile back and started getting some pretty intense groin pain, too. I've stopped it, but still do bike riding most days and it seems to be getting better. I can still feel it if I move the wrong way, though, so I think it's probably a ligament or tendon. A year from now (or less) I'm sure we'll just wonder some day where all the pain suddenly went!!:p

hey melissa. no advice to offer that hasnt been given just wanted to say your doing fantastic and it is so good to hear from you.

Hi Melissa...

Every now and then I feel a little soreness in the joint too, so its probably normal. I only walk for exercise 1 or 2 miles a day, but my doctor told me even though he was lifting the restrictions (at 3 months out), to take it slow, and to still try not cross the op-leg inward, only outward breaking the 90-degree angle.........still stepping back with the op-leg when bending down.

I never take my new hip for granted----every day I thank God and Dr. H. for it!

Hi Melissa, Take it from someone who is pushing 11 months THR. You will continue to heal in an amazing way from your point to mine. I remember worrying about my hip at about 5 months because I overdid exercise and tried jumping jacks because I was feeling so good.

Now I barely think about it at all. Only thing that I am working on is the flexibility.

Good luck, bet you will feel better soon, if not already.

Laurie

Thanks Karen, Monique, Hop, and Laurie -so nice to hear from you all too :)

Laurie -that really helps. Are you able to do jumping jakes now at 11 months with no flare up at all?

I'd bet $ Laurie can do lots of jumping jacks!!!
