Just a quick update. I have been a very busy woman! I have not spent much time at the computer since my surgery...
I had BTKR on 6/18, went to rehab for six days and was released (6/26) with a ROM of 105 in each leg.
I have 10 home Physical Therapy (PT) visits scheduled until the end of July. I had home PT on 6/27 where I walked about 300 feet up the road and back with one crutch, and had my ROM checked. I was still over 100 degrees.
On 6/30 the 6 preschool children and 3 school age children returned to my home for child care. My client Mom of 2 of the children is taking over the running of the business for me while I work on resting and getting better. Last week went very well!
On 6/30 I did a lot of balancing exercises and worked on my stride length and stairs making sure I move at the knee and not the hip. On 7/2 I had my 24 staples in each knee removed and replaced with steri-strips. My ROM is still quite good. I did not have PT over the holiday at all and rested, relaxed and enjoyed a family BBQ gathering.
The children are back again this week, and keep checking on me and my progress. I had PT again today and I reached 112 ROM in my left knee, and 113 ROM in my right knee. I am doing the stairs by alternating my feet with each step. My PT says my stride length is good and my walking is excellent with my heel, toe motion in my feet. My ankles are working well too with my walking. I started the stationary bike today. I have yet to make a total revolution. My PT also told me I can work on my Total Gym again and do quad strengthening exercises. The healing is going well with the incision and I still have about a half dozen steri-strips over each incision. I believe the magnetic therapy (a machine that creates a magnetic field when turned on and placed by the knees, a necklace and an ankle bracelet for each ankle) have helped me with the healing process.
I am taking my medication, icing, resting and doing my PT until I am exhausted and feel like I have had the stuffing punched out of me. Sometimes that happens with just showering too!
I think I am making good progress.
This week I have PT again on Thursday. Bob and I will also go out on the Mount Washington Cruise on Thursday evening for the dinner cruise. Friday we are going to leave for the broken link removed: https://www.northatlanticbluesfestival.com/about.html in Rockland, Maine for a long weekend. This will be my summer vacation. It should be fun sitting in a full reclining lounge chair and grooving to the Blues for 2 days by the water.
Monday will be a day off for me to enjoy the 4 hour ride back home.
So, things are going very well for me! I feel that I am making good progress. My client Mom helper will be with me until the 15th of August. Hopefully by then I should be able to run the business on my own.
Best,
Crystal
