I am doing well. I am off the pain meds and going to therapy twice a week. I still have some swelling in my knee. Has anyone else had problems with knee swelling after hip surgery? The muscles are very tight when I bend my knee.

Well Mark Im glad your doing well. At 3 weeks I would think there would be swelling. But Ill let the hips tell ya that. Hang in there sounds like you are doing well...........

Hi Mark

Mine was exactly the same and it is only during this last week (4-5 weeks post op) that I have noticed the swelling has virtually gone. So it is quite normal - I found it really difficult to bend mine as well.

Keep up the great work though, sounds like you are doing really well

I was so swollen down to my foot. I hardly recognized it as a foot. All normal and swelling will make everything feel tight, because it is!!
go easy on yourself you are very, very early in recovery. Rest
judy

mark, i believe alot of the swelling comes from all the extra fluids your given due to the spinal. make sure your elevating it above your heart , do you wear your ted hose. those lovley support stockings

You're also putting a lot more pressure on your knee as part of your new gait now, Mark! Don't fret! It all comes with the territory!! Keep icing, elevating, icing,,,,,, :)

Sounds like you are doing great!! My knee didn't swell except when I had the DVT, but I read a lot of people here had swelling there. Mine is in the Glute Medius area always and still hasn't gone away (10 weeks out), but everyone is different. I am not the status quo hip I have found. I look forward to hearing more good reports from you!

Mark, I had swelling in my entire lower leg which appeared about 5 days after my THR. It started to fade around 3 weeks. I worried about this, too, but my OS's office said it was completely normal and would go away in time. Also, my knee and ankle joints were very stiff during this time -- made it hard to do the PT. Well, they were right, all went back to normal after several weeks and my knee and ankle no longer feel stiff. You are still very early in recovery, and this, too, shall pass. Certainly icing and elevating help as does walking. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
Gail
