I can't believe it has been 3 months. I saw my doc yesterday. The most exciting thing for me was freedom to hike!!! I was actually smart today and went slowly and only up to a spot called First Water. I also used a hiking pole (they are very popular these days)
It went great as far as my hip was concerned!! Couldn't tell I had a hip in there!! My stamina was great (probably thanks to swimming the last 6 weeks)
Life is Good

At the apt. my doc told me my range of motion was awesome. No pain with anything he did.
I can head to the gym and use the machines again.
I still have a quad muscle that is sooo much smaller and weaker than the other leg. Also glute muscle that is way smaller. Still ITBand discomfort. The muscles do cause pain at times. He told me once those muscles get to the same size as the left leg, the discomfort should be gone. He also mentioned that will take a very long time.
I have endocrine issues and when my growth hormone is out of line and cortisol too they turn muscle to fat!!!!

Then we switched the conversation to my right knee. Some intermittent severe stabbing pain. Same thing that was happening with my hip.
So an MRI this week on the knee. I am not sure where this is going and try not to think about it. Of course strengthening the quad muscle will help the knee.

I am still taking percocet in the am. Most days I take it in the late afternoon as well. It is really a combo and prescribed by my spine surgeon. Right now I have knee, shoulder and spine pain , the hip is the least problomatic.

I would say at 3 months. I am cured!!!!! It is pretty amazing to me eveytime I think about it.

Went to a party today. Several hours, great friendship. Sat on a highish chair to allow my leg to be straightened out. And low and behold, my left leg became twice the size of my non-operated on leg. Knee all swol up, ankle all swol up, thigh all swol up. I wuz so normal up 'til today! Why am I swelling up?

I had lots of swelling in the early days. I came back from the hospital with 20 extra pounds of fluid. Both legs from thigh to toes were unbelievably swollen.
When was your surgery??
Judy

Jessie - its probably from sitting for a long period of time at the party. I was having this problem and it all stemmed from a long day sitting (12 hours) starting with working half a day and finishing with a long stint sitting around the hospital while my son was observed. This was four weeks post op and it actually took about five days of putting my feet up for longish periods or having a lie down to get back to normal.

Judy - how exciting to be able to hike again. How far did you go and what condition was the track?

There is a local trail in the town I live in. I went to my favorite spot, called First Water. The stream does still have enough water for my doggie to cool down, but much less than 3 months ago.
It is 1.5 miles up , 1,000 feet of elevation gain, narrow, at times rocky. To get to the top of the mountain is about 7 miles and steep all the way.
I am going to try to progress slowly and go to the stream for a week before venturing further.

A fire went through our local mountains in the spring. Even with no rain it is amazing to see all the green bushes that are dotting the mountainside.

I am heading up there again this morning!!

Surgery was 12 Aug. And the swelling did go away after coming home and raising my leg up. I think I'll wait a little while to go for a hike. I felt like my leg was a big 'ol tattle tale.

Or a big fat monkey as some here liked to say!
