As a team, you will have people like yourself going through surgery at the same time to talk with. We find this works really well to deal with concerns and provide support to each other.

Thanks for providing us with your surgery information for April. We’ll get it added to your signature. We recently implemented a new membership program and there are new Guidelines for Posting. You are currently a Basic Member. I hope you choose one of our subscription options so you can start a recovery thread, officially join the April Rainbows, and receive one-on-one personal support to quickly answer any questions or concerns you may have. We’re still a non-profit organization and the small subscription cost goes toward keeping BoneSmart available for everyone.

@soberrobot … your planned surgery is a first for us with three joints at the same time. Can you tell me who your surgeon is?

@Jamie My surgeon is Dr. Philip Merritt, Medical Director of the Orthopedic Institute at Adventist Health Glendale. Edit: My surgeon’s office just called and they had to postpone the procedure until April 16th.

Thank you. Do you know if Dr. Merritt has attempted this before? And am I correct that this won’t be outpatient surgery….right?

Sorry for all the questions, but attempting to replace three joints at the same time is a bit radical and it could possibly amplify the normal risks of joint replacement surgery. I hope Dr. Merrit has talked with you about all this.

@Jamie Yes, you are correct; it is not an outpatient procedure. I am going to be in the hospital for at least over night, possible a few days. We have discussed the risks and he has done this before.

Best Wishes for your surgery tomorrow, April 16th!
I hope you'll consider joining us as you heal. Your recovery will be a fascinating one to watch and we'd love to support you through it. Hope to see you on the healing side soon!
@soberrobot

I do hope you plan to join the Insiders Club at some point so you will be able to talk about your surgery and recovery. At this point you are a Basic Member and have limited access to all the features of BoneSmart. Please let us know if you have any questions about upgrading your membership here.

@Taser thanks for providing us with your surgery information. We’ll get it added to your signature. We recently implemented a new membership program and there are new Guidelines for Posting. You are currently a Basic Member. I hope you elect one of our subscription options so you can start a recovery thread, officially join the Musketeers, and receive one-on-one personal support to quickly answer any questions or concerns you may have. Hello, I have a left hip replacement scheduled on 4/14. I want to learn from this community on the pre and post-surgery recovery journey.

My doctor says I will not likely need a second surgery in my lifetime, but I also read a lifespan of 20 years on the internet. I would love to hear what your thoughts are on the lifespan of THR.

Hi, @westside0414 ……welcome to the BoneSmart community. We’re happy you found us and decided to join. We have a lot of supportive members and staff who are ready to help you prepare for surgery and have a successful recovery.

BoneSmart has a 2-tier membership program that should have been mentioned when you registered - Basic Member and Insiders Club. Under our current Guidelines for Posting, you’ll see that Basic Members like yourself are limited to using our search feature to find threads to read that interest you. You may also make on-topic posts on existing threads. But posting is limited mainly to discussions of other member’s surgery or recovery.

In order to have the full benefit of BoneSmart that includes the ability to start threads of your own about questions or concerns and to create a recovery journal after your surgery, you need to be a member of the Insiders Club. You can find an explanation of the differences in Basic Members and Insider Club premium services on our Membership Page. There is a link there to choose the subscription option you prefer. The premium services that come with an Insiders Club membership include personal one-on-one guidance from our experienced staff, access to hundreds of pertinent articles and guidelines in our BoneSmart Library, rapid responses to your questions and concerns and more. This membership program is new for us and we are continuing to add new premium services each month.

If you choose to remain a Basic Member, you are welcome to do so. You’ll be free to search all the forums for information. And you can post on existing threads as long as your comments are on topic for the thread.

Please let me know if you have any questions about our membership program. I do hope you’ll decide to upgrade your membership so we can talk in more detail about your questions on joint longevity and any other topics that are on your mind.

My right anterior approach THJR has been rescheduled and will now be on Tuesday 8 April. Had an arthroscopy in November thinking a tidy up of the labrum and CAM resection would sort things out. Unfortunately there is a big cleft worn in the head of the femur which my surgeon said he hasn't seen before and which did not show on imaging and only option is to do THJR. It's been a pretty rocky road over the last 18 months, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in August 23, 4 surgeries, chemo and radiotherapy and I'm out the other side. Just want the hip over with so I can move forward. Have been working hard on my prehab, strengthening etc, so hoping recovery will go smoothly
