I had a TKR on the 24th, the doc told me my leg was broken during the procedure so no weight allowed on the leg for 6 weeks, 4 days after the TKR a blood clot was found in my calf and has made things a bit tricky.:pzld: I'm 36 and very active and this resting and icing thing stinks, my spirits are lower now than I can ever remember but I keep telling myslef it's going to get better. I'm up to 115 on flex and 10 on ext. Support is a key to getting through this as I am finding out the hard way. :pnc:

Welcome, Thumper!!! Look at it this way.....after such a rocky start, things have GOT to get BETTER. ..and they WILL!! Just DON'T be discouraged!!! ((:0)

Thumper,
Hello it is so nice to meet you. It sound like the start of a good Book!!!! And your Rom & Ext are really good!!! And in 4 weeks I bet you will hit the ground running!!!!
But while you are resting and icing please come in Social area and vist.

17 days and you have 115 flexion? My goodness! That is awesome!

However, we were all low in spirit at 2-4 weeks. But it does get better. The toughest lesson you have to learn is more is not necessarily better! Take is easy. Resign yourself to lots of rest and naps when you can get them - we all know sleep is a fond memory right now! Keep taking the pain meds regularly whether you think you need them or not. Just keep on top of the pain and the swelling and all will be well. You're so far ahead of the game now, anything you slob back on will be inconsequential!

Keep posting. We love hearing from success stories!

Greeting...so sad you are having such a rough time. My gracious--you are a doing great, but I can understand your frustration. When you are active, it is very difficult to be "quiet". Hope you have some good support at home...it is really tough not being able to put any weight on your leg.

We are here to encourage, laugh and cry with you. Folks here have been through good times and bad. Some of us can keep you laughing... hopefully not rolling on the floor--it might be tough getting up!!!:hehe:

It will get better...probably not by tomorrow..but it will..I promise!
Barb

Hi--please hang in there--you've had a rocky beginning---but it looks like you are coping and 115 flex is GREAT at this point! Please post often--we're all here to help support you and answer questions.

We all have cried at times, felt low and or anxious and have wondered if we'd get through the recovery process. We also can laugh sometimes as Barb says in her post---and each day gets us a little further toward a better future that includes less pain and more mobility.

Bonesmart folks are here for you. Best wishes and regards. Nancy

That's good to hear. We'll help you keep your chin up!

Hi Thumper

I also ended up with a minor tibia fracture in the tibia of one of the knees. This was caused by a prior bone graft in that knee so not totally unexpected. The doctor wanted to put in a longer stem part but the surgery had gone so long he couldn't do that. He just filled the crack with lots of bone cement. I was allowed to be 50% weight bearing for 5 weeks. I had both done so be non-weight bearing would have been very tricky. It all worked out fine. Your ROM is great, it took me 7 1/2 months to get that far.

Simon

Thumper glad you are feeling better already. See what being a bonesmartie does to you
Welcome. I am facing surgery and recovery again soon and do not look forward to the down time. I am also very active, but somehow do make it through.

Hi, Thumper....glad you found us BoneSmarties to help you get through the rough spots. You had a tough beginning to recovery, but it will keep getting better each week....HONEST!!! Hang in there. Everyone's advice is right on. Try to rest and keep pain at bay for now. You'll be up and increasing that ROM even more very soon.

Well I'm coming up on three weeks and so far so good, I've only had one really bad day and that was mostly depression, you folks solved that one. I cant wait till I can start putting some weight on this bionic knee and see what she can do. So far all of my original pains are gone and hopefully for good. My rom is doing great and im hitting my exercises according to how my body feels, some days harder some lighter but im not pushing it or overdoing it by any means. Take care

Thumper...I am so proud of you. You are doing great! Keep up the great job and keep your chin up. Soon you will be back to normal activities! Like calling said, while you are laid up, join us in the social room. We just chit chat back and forth about anything and there's alsp a recipe thread.

Thumper....please continue to take things slowly. You can make yourself hurt needlessly if you push too hard. But....I think you'll be really impressed at how well your new knee works! Mine let me go back to the gym and workouts just like before....as long as I work into them slowly. The one time I tried to really push, I had soft tissue pain for a couple of weeks. Try to avoid that!!!

See Thumper!!!! You can laugh AND get fat!!!! ((:0)
