I am a 38 mom of two young boys. I had a LTHR 13 days ago. Tomorrow is my follow-up. I need to start a list of the questions I have. When can I pick up my children? Will I limp? Will I continue to have pain? What if I slip at the pool or am in a car accident? When and how can I have sex? Sooo many questions. Are these too trivia and are there anymore major questions I should ask? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!!

There is no question you shouldn't ask. A good doctor is willing to provide this information for you.

You might want to discuss your therapy program and the goals he has for you.

I know I asked all those questions and more. Nothing is too trivial. It is all new to us. Also WElcome!!!

Welcome Youngmom,

I turned up with a piece of paper in hand, just to make sure I asked everything I wanted to know. All your questions so far sound great, just keep adding.

Best wishes for your recovery.

Lots of things
When can i drive?
When can I carry heavy stuff (like washing out to the line)?
How long before I can twist?
Were there any complications with the surgery?
Is my progress appropriate?
Are there any long term restrictions? or short term restrictions beyond the 6 weeks mark?
Sex?
Is there anything that I could do that I shouldn't do?
How long do I need to maintain pt exercises?
What do I do if I have an accident ....ring him? or go to emergency department?
What circumstances require a phone call to him? (include signs of infection ) No Jo/Jamie I promise I'm not being alarmist, but its good to be informed...!
How long do you expect I should need pain killers? and what if its longer?

How long is a piece of string?......!
Rachel

I would strongly suggest that asking any surgeon how long you will need pain killers is a loaded question! Most surgeons I have heard give an opinion on this all seem to think we are made of old boots! (or maybe that we are old boots!). You have to work this one out as you go. Trust me, no two people have ever had the same experience regarding the pain issue!

Hi Youngmom
I had my first appointment with my OS last night and he was only too willing to answer all of my questions, and he even answered most of them before I got round to asking them !!
Taking the list with you is definately the way to go.
My main question was what, specifically, should I NOT do to maintain the fantastic progress I have already made !!

Regards
Andy
