1. Give me your best guess - I have a very small car (Solstice), how long do you think it will take me to be able to get in and out of that car? I'm only 5'2" tall, so I don't have to do much 'folding' to get in!

2. What about wearing heels after I'm all healed up??? Right now there's no way, but my dh's job requires quite a few "functions" to attend, and being only 5'2", I like to be able to look people in the face! (plus, I'm a major 'shoe fanatic", too!)

Thanks for any response - off to hospital in the morning for my pre surgery seminar and tests.... 2 weeks from today..... nerves.....

Hey Beach!
I wore heels at the 3 month mark! You shouldn't really have much trouble getting into your car after about the 3 to 4 week mark! We're ALL different so expect all different answers! All the best to you!:thmb:

One there should not be a problem in and out of your car. Just put the seat back as far as it will go and tilt up the stirring wheel as far as it will go. Then when you are in, put everything back. You probably won't be able to drive before 5 to 6 weeks.

Heels I am tall so don't wear hi heels anymore. But I do the 3 inch ok.

Do as loggon suggests but also lay a strong plastic shopping bag on the seat.
Sit facing at right angles and swing your legs around together (as one) to face front, sliding on the plastic... no heaving and straining that sore leg and knee. You can use your good leg as an extra 'lifter' for your repaired leg, tuck your good foot under the ankle and lift.
Practice this before your operation and you should have no trouble... :thmb:

Heels ? haven't done those for years, rotten ankles don't help.

Thanks all, I feel a bit better, I love riding in the car with the top down, I know that will make me feel better on a bad day (and I know they will come). I'm ready for shoe shopping, too!
Can't wait to see what I learn in this class tomorrow.

Hey Beachbum, please let me know if you learn anything worth repeating at your class tomorrow. My class isn't until the 15th, RTKR on the 23rd.

Remember this - the whole objective of this operation is to let you live your life the way you want to. That includes heels and squishing into small cars! The heels will be a case of try it and see. You will be surprised! And if you overdo it, the resultant aches will be just that. There won't be anything much you can do to harm the new knee. You have my word on that.

Good morning you will be back to normal so soon ....you sound like you are doing great ......Im really happy for you................) Glad you can were heels i have no coordination at all......lol

Hi beachbum, Not sure for you (You should have no prob at all!)but I had some trouble stuffing My 6'1" 250lb
frame into my G.F's toyota Yaris. It was kinda comical (like stuffin a Gorrilla
In a kiddi car) This was for the ride home from the Hospital. She picked me up at the
Main entrance and people literally stopped and stared LOL it was hilarious!!!
UHHH? can't help ya' with the high heels though! Best Wishes Tom

Tom .. you should see my 6'1" husband fold himself into the Solstice if the top is up!! It's worth taking pictures! But my 5'2" is no problem, at least for now.

It's TRUE, It's totally hilarious, I was laughing so hard It felt like my Inscision
was gonna pop! I feel for your hubby, I know what it's like! LOL!!

Hi, beachbum....I think you'll be surprised at how all these things just fall into place for you. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that you leap into your open convertible one of these days!! :hehe:

Oh, I hope so! Getting in is easy, now getting out is another story! I wear a brace so I just grab the brace and hoist my right leg out! I can't wait to cut that thing up, think I'll make Christmas ornaments out of it, since it is bright red and shiny!!

Ohhhh....sounds like a real fashion statement!! I know you'll be glad not to need it any more.

On the left is my hand, holding a "whale tail" cup up behind the real "whale tail" - on a Carnival Cruise ( I think this was on the Holiday) - the cup looks just like the "funnel" on the ship.
You can see the whale tail or the funnel on the ship:

Love cruising.... it's the best and most relaxing vacation.
Now you won't be going mental, at least because of this!!!
