Hi everyone! Well, I saw the PA in my OS's office today. My stitches were removed (yea!) and we talked a bit. Unfortunately, my OS was swamped, so I was not able to chat w/ him about the surgery (my appt was with the PA, I was just hoping he would be able to pop in). The PA went over the pictures from my surgery and based on what she saw, she said that it looks like I am still a good candidate for the "deuce" surgery to replace/resurface the medial compartment and under the patella. Of course, she couldn't give me the OS's impressions, because well, she's not him! LOL!!! I have my next follow up appt in about four weeks, so I really won't know any more until then. I have my 'assignments'...to work on strengthening my quads and to start on an exercise bike and then we'll take it from there...So, who knows????

All I know for sure is that I really feel better, still have some pain, but it's certainly manageable. Now if I can just get my OS's darn initials off my knee....(they are starting to fade, finally!)

thanks again for all of the support and questions you have answered--I'm sure I will have LOTS more!!!

So glad to hear you are doing good. Too bad he didn't put a happy face or something on your knee instead of initials...that would look cute. From what I understand...pain will be there for a bit...but it will get better and it's good that it's tolerable now. Good Luck and Happy Recovery!

Look forward to better days, Cindy!!! They're coming!!! (:)0)

That's right Cindy they are coming!

I am going back to work on Monday--I have to say it will be good to have something to do again, of course I'm sure I'll be eating those words after the first day!

Tonight we are going grocery shopping....what an exciting Friday night! I am dragging my husband with me. I could probably do it, but there's no reason he can't go to help!

That's right you bring hubby with you to grocery shop. It is my least favorite activity.

Can you explain the surgery you said you were a good candidate for? I have patella problems so am interested
judy

My hubby LOVES to do the grocery shopping! Delegate it to HIM whenever possible!!! (:)0_

Please take it easy when you go back to work...don't over do it. Are you going back full time or part time. Whatever hours you're working just be careful!!! We care!

Hey Mj I wish you the best I know i didnt see my Dr either just his asst. Glad you feel a lil better.Hang in there.......please let us know what he says when you go back......Good Luck to you..............)

Thanks everyone!

Judy--I don't mind grocery shopping, I just hate spending so much $ at the store! The surgery my OS has talked to me about is:

"Journey Deuce resurfaces just these diseased areas -- the kneecap and medial compartments -- and leaves healthy bone and important ligaments intact.

Most importantly, Journey Deuce uses an implant that preserves the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). These ligaments provide stability during physical activities such as walking and climbing stairs. With Journey Deuce, the ACL and PCL remain intact, creating a more natural and stable feeling to the knee." This is from the Smith and Nephew Journey Deuce website.

Needless to say, I have LOTS of ???? for my OS before any decisions are made. Recovery time is supposed to be a shorter, BUT if I am going to be looking at having this re-done or converted to a TKR soon after, then well, why do it? I have already started a list of ?? to take to my appt in Oct, and I'm sure I will think of more!

Judi--Lucky you! My husband does a lot, but grocery shopping isn't something he likes to do.

Cindy--I'm going back full time. Luckily my employer is very understanding, so if I need to take it easy, I can. I saved LOTS of paperwork for when I get back...fun, fun. I already have a pillow in my office and ice packs in the freezer!

Kim--Thanks! I really like his PA, it's just that she couldn't answer my questions. Of course, until I heal some more--and see how my knee feels, we won't know exactly how to proceed either. If the pain is under control, we'll post pone surgery for a little while.

Thanks for explaining . Let's hope the scope calms it all down for a long time.
Take it easy at work

Absolutely take it easy at work mj!!! Especially from the beginning!!! (:)0)

I have a Journey Deuce. The OS assured me that he wouldn't do a partial unless he thought the lateral side looked great. When I asked what if I do need a total in the future, he said the Journey Deuce is very easy to just add on the lateral part.

Judy-I hope it does too, but I knoe he didnt do too much, other than look around, so we'll se...fingers crossed that I can put it off at least a little while, of course it took forever to get approval for this surgery, so who knows how long the next one will take.

Judi--I will, the first week will be the worst--I am afraid I have gotten pretty lazy this week. I'm really going to miss my afternoon naps! Good thing I still have two days before I go back! LOL!!!!

Pat--thank you for the info!!!! That is good to know. My OS said the same thing about the lateral side. What was your recovery like?

Wellllll, hehehe....I've got posts all over the place here about my recovery. I'm sure people are sick of hearing about it by now. You can click on my name and in the statistics column it lists threads started by me.

I was doing great at 10 weeks, but did too much one day apparently and got tendinitis. hmm, spellcheck prefers this spelling of tendinitis, I've been using tendonitis since an article said you could use either one. Anyway, when I finally got in to see the doctor about six weeks later (due to his and my vacations), he told me to rest it.

When I last saw him, he cleared me to start strengthening exercises again. The rest helped some, but now it seems to be getting better faster. I really think I'll be pleased with this knee. It bends so well and is just comfortable most of the time.

Pat

Pat--Ok, thanks, I'll look for your other posts. So glad things are going better for you now!

When we grocery shop, I push the cart and stand at the top of the aisles and have hubby go up and down the aisles while I point and shoot! Works great, as long as I fell like doing even that.
Won't it be great after surgery to be able to shop, load cart, wait in line, load car, unload car, put groceries away, cook dinner, do dishes after. Wow, that seems like a distant memory. But we can dream, huh?

I am doing a partial in October with an Oxford Knee, a bit different from you Journey Deuce, but I hope we both fet good results.
Thanks for your posts. Kimberly

Kimberlyann--That's funny! I had a hard time pushing the cart, so hubby just followed me around.....slowly.....yea, I can't wait for that simple stuff to be pain free again! I LOVE to cook (when I have the time--mostly weekends for me), but all of the standing and moving around the kitchen, well, let's just say the quality of our meals has gone down hill!

I second that....I KNOW we will both feel better. Can't wait to hear how your surgery and recovery go!

OK Kimberlyann and mj5 when yuo are both recovered you can come to my house and grocery shop and cook. I really can skip those activities and be just fine and happy!!!!
For my with my thoracic herniations the standing in the kitchen is not pleasant (of course I am usually on pain killers) cooking is just not pleasant on prednisone cause if I eat i'll gain weight!!!!! Then i'm just not a great cook.

judy

mj5...I went back part time for 2 weeks and then last Monday I started back full time. Let me tell you, when you get home get your legs up and elevated and iced! You will need extra rest because going back to work takes a lot out of you! So please take it easy! O.K.?:thmb:
