Do you have any recommendations for an orthopedic surgeon to revise a failing revision? My original replacement was in 10/2009. My original revision was in 3/2014. I am going to be referred to HSS, finally, but know no one there. I could really use your valued opinions. Thank you.

Hello @JVtwoknees - and :welome:

Please will you tell us the full date of your knee replacement and which knee it is, so we can make a signature for you? Knowing the exact date will help us to advise you appropriately in the future.
Thank you.

I've moved your post from a recovery thread, because asking your question was taking the thread off course. each person has their own recovery thread and the focus of the thread should be on their recovery.

Can you tell us why your knee replacements needed to be revised?
It sounds as if you need a surgeon who has made revising problem knees his specialty. Certainly, if the same surgeon did both your knee operations its time for a different surgeon.

You'll need a surgeon who has no contact, either professional or social, with your current surgeon, so that you get a completely independent opinion. You may have to travel outside your area to get that.

You can start by using our Surgeon Locator (in the blue band at the top of the page). Make a list of surgeons who sound suitable and then start phoning. Ask if the surgeon has experience in doing revisions and, if so, how many he/she does in a year.

If you can't find anyone, you can tag Jamie, giving your post code and saying how far you are willing to travel. she may be able to suggest someone.

I was kicked by a patient in 10/2008, and had to have my right knee replaced in 10/2009. The Depuy prosthetic was defective and was replaced with a Depuy revision prosthetic in 3/2014. I am now having pain and lucency in the upper rod in my femur. The MD’s in Poughkeepsie,NY will want me to go to specialists for any further revisions. Frankly, so do I. I am only 56 years old, and work full time as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I need to know the names of specialists who will be able to hopefully fix my problem. Preferably at HSS. Thank you.

Here are some options for you:

New York City
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS)

Stavros Niarchos Foundation Complex Joint Reconstruction Center is a special program created with a $10M grant that deals with diagnosing and treating the most challenging knee and hip replacement problems. As part of the diagnosis, a committee of surgeons meets to discuss your case. There is a $500 fee for your case review. This center is headed up by Dr.Thomas Sculco. This may be a worthwhile option rather than trying to pick a specific surgeon.

Hospital for Special Surgery (HHS) surgeons for knee revisions:

Dr. Bostrom
Dr DeFelice
Dr. Della Valle (I have heard several great recommendations on this surgeon)
Dr. Jerebek
Dr. Westrich
