Well, I had my surgery on Oct 15 at 10:00 a.m. (Canada). They did a spinal and I woke up in recovery at noon. Didn't get up to my room until 7:00 p.m. that night and was just lucky to have a room. There were 2 men left in recovery that had to stay there for the night as there were no rooms available for them. As it was I ended up in a co-ed room (which I didn't want, but what can you do, at least I had a room)

I felt great as the numbness hadn't yet worn off and they had me standing up and took a few steps. The BOMB hit during the night when the pain meds weren't working or too far apart (I can't take morphine). Oh boy, that was tough.

They finally gave me some demerol on Friday and I was able to get the pain under control by Sat.

I was home on Mon, Oct 19 and have been doing quite well. Still fairly painful but that is to be expected. I have been taking Tramacet and it seems to be holding the pain quite well. Have taken a few tablets of Percocet at night when the pain is fairly bad, but don't think I will need any more of that.

The swelling has come down way more than I anticipated it would at this point. I am getting all my 29 staples out tomorrow and just wonder how they do that? Guess I will find out then.

My hubby has been absolutely wonderful, taking care of me and our 2 businesses as well. He is quite tired by the time he gets home at night but still manages to cook us a great meal, even tho I don't have much of an appetite right now.

It is so nice to have the surgery behind me. The anticipation is almost worse than getting it done and feel that the worst is behind me.

Knee is fairly stiff and I have been doing my exercises and can walk about 1/2 a block at one time. Not sure what degree of bending I have but guess I will find that out tomorrow. Try to do a little more each time I bend or straighten my knee

This forum is great for getting information, and I want to thank all of you for that. Get varying stories, even from the hospital as to what is the best thing to do, from them telling you before you come home that you should just be taking extra strengh acetominophen, to not elevating the leg. Luckily I have a great doctors office and they sent a prescription to my pharmacy for the Tramacet and said it was way too soon even for Tylenol 3.

Hey Donna im so glad you are all done ..........sounds like you doing well so keep doing what you are doing it will get better and better...............please keep us posted and ask any questions.................congrats to ya...........) but take it easy...........)

Pain management is always such a big issue and very important. I wish the doctor's were more sympathetic in that way.
Glad you're doing so well!!

Welcome, Donna! So glad you are on the other side! It only gets BETTER from here on in! So glad you have such a wonderfully supportive hubby! That certainly helps!!!:thmb::wink:

Sounds like you are doing great - I'm just 5 days behind you, I know what you mean about the anticipation - the waiting was HECK! I think the "not knowing" is worse than actually going through it.
Keep up the good recovery, it sure is nice to hear from people just a bit further out than me, gives me an idea of what to expect - so keep posting!

DonnaC,
Welcome to recovery! Glad things seem to be going so well for you, and don't worry about staple removal, I had mie out last week and only felt a slight sting on about 4-5 of them, the rest I barely felt at all! Just remember to take it slow and easy! Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Thanks all of you,

I'll let you know tomorrow how the staple removal went. This has been the best day so far for me. Pain is very tolerable and at some times not even there.

I am just so glad it's all behind me, so many years of pain and doc's saying you are far too young, etc, etc.

Just looking forward to getting all back to normal

Talk tomorrow

I love hearing the 'Pain is very tolerable and at some times not even there' part. Thanks for that - love hearing that it won't be long - I'm still in the 'Pain is not tolerable and is there all the time' part.
This is the one time I didn't want to be told I was too young! "You're so young" sounds great, until you have go ruin it with the "for a knee replacement" comment!!
Looking forward to how the staple pulling goes!

Hi, I had my staples out last week and only had one little "ouch". Nothing to worry about, in my experience.

You are doing great, and I love the moments when we forget that we have had knee surgery. Yesterday I found myself ON my knee on the bed reaching for something! Only the incision reminded me that I wasn't supposed to be kneeling. How amazing is that??

Have a great day, and best wishes on your staple removal. Can't wait to hear what your surgeon says about your knee!

Kimberly

Staples removed, not bad at all,

BUT, WHAT A BAD NIGHT I HAD LAST NIGHT. Shouldn't have said anything. Nurse at doc's office said to take it easy today, probably overdid it yesterday.

I got a pres. for percoset, she said needed to get the pain under control. Told her that one of the nurses at the hosp. told me I should only be taking extra strength tylenol and by taking percocet would be taking a step back in my pain management. Think they might be talking to the hospital about this.

They said I was doing quite well and I am going to book physio.

Guess all I can say, is let's take it all easy and one step at a time.

Take care, all, and tks for the support

Donna

Just Tylenol - at 2 weeks? I am flabbergasted! They have no idea what they are talking about!

Taking out the staples should be a breeze. Just a little tug and they are out. Really not much pain unless one has gotten sealed in slightly. You'll get through it and come up smiling because it does take some of the "tightness" away from the incision area.

So glad to hear you are doing well. Hope to hear more good stories as you get further into your recovery!!
