Well, I had my surgery on Oct 15 at 10:00 a.m. (Canada). They did a spinal and I woke up in recovery at noon. Didn't get up to my room until 7:00 p.m. that night and was just lucky to have a room. There were 2 men left in recovery that had to stay there for the night as there were no rooms available for them. As it was I ended up in a co-ed room (which I didn't want, but what can you do, at least I had a room)
I felt great as the numbness hadn't yet worn off and they had me standing up and took a few steps. The BOMB hit during the night when the pain meds weren't working or too far apart (I can't take morphine). Oh boy, that was tough.
They finally gave me some demerol on Friday and I was able to get the pain under control by Sat.
I was home on Mon, Oct 19 and have been doing quite well. Still fairly painful but that is to be expected. I have been taking Tramacet and it seems to be holding the pain quite well. Have taken a few tablets of Percocet at night when the pain is fairly bad, but don't think I will need any more of that.
The swelling has come down way more than I anticipated it would at this point. I am getting all my 29 staples out tomorrow and just wonder how they do that? Guess I will find out then.
My hubby has been absolutely wonderful, taking care of me and our 2 businesses as well. He is quite tired by the time he gets home at night but still manages to cook us a great meal, even tho I don't have much of an appetite right now.
It is so nice to have the surgery behind me. The anticipation is almost worse than getting it done and feel that the worst is behind me.
Knee is fairly stiff and I have been doing my exercises and can walk about 1/2 a block at one time. Not sure what degree of bending I have but guess I will find that out tomorrow. Try to do a little more each time I bend or straighten my knee
This forum is great for getting information, and I want to thank all of you for that. Get varying stories, even from the hospital as to what is the best thing to do, from them telling you before you come home that you should just be taking extra strengh acetominophen, to not elevating the leg. Luckily I have a great doctors office and they sent a prescription to my pharmacy for the Tramacet and said it was way too soon even for Tylenol 3.
