I road to see my mom and dad---they live 12 miles away. I rode there in just under an hour---57 minutes. The legs are a little stiff when I get up now, but otherwise, I feel fine. I put the exercise bike away---I am only going to use the real one now.

Good way to push it Tim...I wish I could bike around here. It isn't bike friendly at all.
I did my first heavy bag workout today. Plus 8 sets of 15 squats.. My tkr leg didn't like the kicks at first so I just backed off the power..My quads and gluts feel those squats...and I love the feeling..I feel like I'm finally getting the power base back.

Yep, there is a good kind of pain that we kind of like to enjoy---it says that we are accomplishing something. One of my former students is a DI in the USMC. He says (and I agree) that the brain will want to quit before the body actually needs to. It is all about not giving into what the brain---and the pain---are trying to say to us. The DI says that we need to surprise ourselves to find out actually how far we can go!

My Kenpo instructor is a retired Navy Senior Chief. He was a survival instructor for the S.E.A.L.'s. He teaches the classes the same way..When I first started I thought doing 25 push ups was good for a warm up. Now I think nothing if we do 100 ladder push ups.
My son gets so frustrated in P.E. in school when kids can't even do 3 push ups..He was the highest scoring in the 8th grade physical test this year...(little brag there).
I'm going to do upper body bag work tomorrow so we'll see if I can even type afterwards..I kind of need to remember I'm 55 sometimes.

Big boys. You know, they say don't expect our new knee to do things that we didn't do with our old knees, but I think that my new knee can allow me to do things i wanted to do and couldn't. Get the difference. You guys are inspiring. I'll probably not be doing 12 miles or 100 push ups any time soon but I can try to do more than I used to and get a rush as I do more and more every day, even if it is something like putting the cart in the corral at the grocery store or walking it back to the store curb instead of just leaving it by my spot because it hurts too much to walk.

Keepin' it REAL, Jenn! Your post is wonderful! Even those small things are really BIG!!!

That's exactly the way you do it. Add a little more each time. Out brains too frequently want to quit when we can get so much more out of our bodies. BUT, common sense does need to apply. Don't do things that will injure the new joint. I know none of us want to go through another of these things anytime soon..
I have been wondering though..
Wouldn't it be funny if say 15 years from now, when it's time for "revisions", we ended up on the same forum again?

I'd like to say it's a date but I'm planning on getting at least 25 out of mine! :)

Ummmmm.....Doug, that is assuming that any of us ever really LEAVE the forum......Hotel Cal-e-forn-yuh time.....ya check in but you never leave.

I agree that my mind has to be overcome as it doesn't even want to start exercise!

I am so happy for you, Tim. I don't ride a regular bike but for those that do, it must be such a joy to get back to it and have the stamina and strength to go the distance. Congratulations!

Doug, I'm so happy for you getting back to Kenpo. I kick butt around the house, but that's just my teenagers... and I could do that with my knee still in bandages!

I'm doing the stationary bike but I have to get beyond that point, you all know it, where it is work to the point where it is fun. then I enjoy it. I, too, love the feeling of muscles that are sore from working out. It is a feel good thing.

The good weather this weekend got me motivated, but it's going to rain and cool down to the 50's until Thursday... COME ON SUMMER!!

Oh, and I hope to get 25+ out of mine, too. Can you imagine doing this in your 80's? I have so much respect for those folks. They are heroes of mine.

Skeet, I too expect 25 years from this lil' ol' knee. But since 50 is the new 30, when we're 85, we'll really only be 65-year-old youngsters.
