wow 11 weeks does fly by for sure ......im 4 weeks past its went by quickly as well i have a question for you all did any of you have problems with your butt muscels and thighs hurting when tryin to walk at 4 week?I tryed today with out a walker or my cane did for bout 3 mins i started hurting so bad in my butt and thighs i had to stop it brought tears to my eyes ok ok i cried it hurt so bad and i thought i was doing real good am i expecting to much to soon??????? and Patti poo you are a looker for sure :O) JIM

My new baby knee was 3 months old on Friday. Seems like forever and like yesterday--- all at the same time.

Patti---- if had looked like you in the hospital I would have taken pictures too. But after the week I had just getting ready I looked way scary even at that point. My surgery was on a Friday morning and we catered a cookie order for 3,888 fancy holiday cookies in decorated boxes that week and I looked like I had been run through the dough machine a few dozen times by the time I got to the hospital!

Jim-- I don't know if I had the exact same pain you are describing.... but I swear that every muscle, bone, ligament, tendon, hair follicle, and skin cell in my left leg has either ached or been on fire over the past 3 months at one time or another. I was truly worried at one point that now I had osteoarthritis in my HIP and I was going to have to have a THR next!

They just totally cut, sawed, rearranged, stretched, yanked, pounded and
yanked the heck out of your leg. Josephine told me all those rearranged and new body parts just have to get to know one another and its just gonna take time for it all to happen.
I've got no great wisdom to pass on. When it hurts, listen and be kind to your body. Take it easy. It does get better.

You all are never going to let me forget that joke, are you!!

It's a good thing Patti and I weren't in the same hospital...I would have caught my catheter tube on something trying to keep up with her when they made me walk...I have no pictures of me. Wouldn't have even thought to take pictures.

JB. Don't be too hard on yourself..You just do the best you can and keep trying to improve.
Somewhere in one of the post way back I mentioned that I decided to go to the mall..It has a measured indoor track...Big stud here was going to walk it.
I parked outside, went inside. I made it about 100 Feet and thought I was going to pass out. I barely made it back to my truck with my tail between my legs...We have good days and bad days. It is so gradual but eventually it seems that the good days become more frequent. I'm still taking pain pills at nine weeks but less frequently. I'm also taking I/2 when I used to take 1 sometimes 2...So, it is all coming together...Time heals my friend. That and working it out and making it stronger.

Doug, don't keep reminding me - that image of your nurse leading you round the hospital on a leash (your catheter) is one I regularly break out into a hearty chuckle over!!

Yep, there I was on that walker, knee swollen up, 39 staples, IV tube in the arm...did I care about that??? NO!! I wanted to know exactly where the catheter tube was. I'm think I'm going to recommend the police dept switch to a catheter to lead prisoners around rather than handcuffs..They would never ever try to run with one of those in.

woo hooooooooooo i so agree with you doug LOL LOL they surley wouldnt run or walk away LOL i know i sure didnt enjoy mine thats for sure ........ JIM

It never occurred to me to have my wife photograph me. The only thing that stands out from the first 2 days after surgery was the IV morphine. She remarked that if I was going to talk such gibberish on the IV, she wouldn't visit.
Needless to say, I went on oral meds that day. Hospital w/o wife, not a pleasant prospect. Morphine does weird stuff to me. Makes my face itch and disconnects the brain to mouth route. What I think I said definitely comes out odd. And I mean odd. She accused me of speaking in tongues. So bottom line, no photos and certainly none as composed as our Patti. I was swinging on that trapeze over the bed by day 2 just so I didn't meld into the bedding.

I lie awake at nights thinking of ways to get back at that man who pulled the catheter out of me. The guy next to me had it done, and he didn't say a thing---when it was my turn, I dropped the "F"-bomb a many times and said quite a few other unpleasantries...needless to say,the guy never came back into the room again.

Ref,
They had to put that catheter in me and pull it out five times...The last time there was a nurse on night shift who has nursed for 30+ years. She told me to cough..I did and the cath was out..Now why didn't the others know that..When the pulled it out, I thought the tube was coated in sandpaper. I couldn't talk..But even if I could I wouldn't as long as they had the controlling hold on my--er, appendage.

Must be easier for women. I didn't have any issues at all. I think after having three kids, we're pretty much accustomed to most anything they can do that's embarrassing in a hospital.

My OS removed mine after telling me to cough while telling me a joke. Felt a
pulling sensation and it was out. An odd pulling sensation but I was so glad to be rid of it, I guess I blocked out the painful sensation you are describing.

My major problem was that when they put the first one in it irritated the prostate which in turn caused it to swell up and close down the urethra. Each subsequent time it just got worse. Like I said, that stuff was worse than the TKR. That didn't hurt until I got home. But then Mr. Perc took care of that.

BACK UP THE BUS, PEOPLE!!!!....I wasn't composed...I wasn't calm....I was STONED AND....the worst part...you WANNA know the worst part??...about 2 minutes before THAT photo was taken (by one of my dear children) I told my PASTOR and HUSBAND that my mouth tasted like Camel Sh!t!!!!!!!
CAMEL SH!T!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, one does have to ask exactly how you determined the origin of the taste? I mean I could see a southern belle being familiar with chickens, horses, but a Camel.
Wait till Gatiger sees this.
Patti, don't feel bad, after one of my other knee operations, when I woke up, my pastor was standing there smiling. I smiled and started vigorously scratching my crotch. It itched Oh so bad and the scratching felt so great...That's when they were direct injecting morphine. I itched all over and really didn't care who was around.
