Hello everyone. I have not posted in a while I need some input. I am at 11 months and for the past 3-4 months I have had constant pain and swelling. The pain is not related to activity it just hurts all the time. I have seen my OS a couple of times and he just says give it some time. Something just dosn't seem right. Anybody have similar experiences?

Mike

Mike,
I do not know if it would be the same but, I had the same thing going on with my left knee that I had done on March 6th. I had pain and swelling could not get more the 1 to 2 hrs sleep at a time before it would wake me up. Had MUA done on both knees left knee only hurt more from that. Had a scope on right knee and OS did another MUA on left knee at that time. Hurt more then I can even tell you. I have been telling my OS that I think I would be better off if he would just take the the leg from the knee down. He thought I was funny. OS final did a scope on the left knee but he made sure to tell me he did not think that it would help this knee. But low and behold there was somethings that were wrong inside!!! And there had been a bleeder under the knee from day one. Which in turn was growing some large and strong scar tissue. From when I had woke up in recovery screaming what is wrong with my leg?? Why does it hurt so bad??? So If I were you and I would ask my GP to find me another OS for another opinion. It does not hurt to ask another OS and see what he thinks. Don't live in pain.

I agree with Calling. I think it's time you sought a second opinion.

Can you describe a little more exactly where the pain and swelling are located? With that going on, you should be trying to ice when you can and definitely take some anti-inflammants.

Hi Mike no not you.....i remember the pic of you on your Harley i believe that was you...........I have to 3 rd that and get another opinion that is far out to have that problem.......please let us know and take it easy........) ( if it wasnt you in the pic i apologize)

Yes, you would have heat and redness at the joint and likely an elevated temperature in addition to pain. How does the incision look??

Has the doctor explored the problem a bit? Has he come up with any ideas on what is causing the pain? How about special X-rays or MRI? I agree that if it's tendonitis it could take a few months to get over, but it doesn't seem like you should have this pain so far out. Did it start gradually or all of a sudden after a day of doing more than usual?

The knee is very warm, I have swelling and pain. The incison looks OK there is no redness, I have a low grade fever around 100. The pain started kinda gradual. The thing that has me worried is that the pain is constant I and below the joint it is tender to the touch.

Mike

You need to call your dr you really do.........You have a few things i would a lil concerned about.....just saying go make sure............I hope everything turns out ok........

Hi Mike! So sorry you are having pain at this point! I would suggest that either your OS or another doctor x ray your joint! You need further exploration for your own peace of mind! Good luck and keep us posted! :sct:

Mike
You don't say were the pain is. Your knee yes, but where?

You really need to go to another doctor just to satisfy your mind it is not an infection. You can never be to careful with any medical problem.

Your fever is elevated. Anything about 98.6 is elevated.

The pain is not in the joint itself, it is around the joint mainly on the right side and in the back. sometimes the pain will radiate up and down my leg.

Mike

Harley, make an appointment and get this checked out. You have heat in your knee, pain and an elevated temp. You need to find out what is going on.

Were all these things going on last time you saw your surgeon??? If so, it would bother me that he did not check for infection.....just to be sure. This time see someone else. You will feel better once you have this resolved.

Second opinion with a revision specialist ASAP. I think that's a consensus!

Jamie, I saw my OS about 10 days ago and did have these symptoms we did talk about infection and he said this does not "look" like an infected knee he then said if it doesn't get better come back and i'll take some fluid and have it tested. I see him again on Monday.

Mike

Okay.....but I'd still get another opinion. If infection was even suspected in a small way, in my opinion he should have done some testing rather than wait 2 weeks.

Best of luck,Mike!! That's a long time to be in pain though! :sct:

A simple blood test would be easier. Why hasn't he done that? I wouldn't want anybody sticking needles in my knee just it case it isn't infected but they infect it anyway.
